Culbertson Rescue Squad is proud to serve the residents of Hitchcock County.

Rural EMS especially continues to face challenges across the country, yet dedicated volunteer providers continue showing up for their communities without hesitation. Their commitment, sacrifice, and resilience deserve recognition not just this week, but every week.

Thank you to all EMS providers for your long hours, missed holidays, sleepless nights, and unwavering dedication to serving others.

Congratulations to our 2026 Culbertson Rescue Call to Care Scholarship recipient, Riley Hagan!

Riley is an active participant in the Culbertson Community, and volunteers for many organizations! Riley plans to pursue a career in physical therapy. We wish her luck in all of her future endeavors!

Strokes happen suddenly. Knowing what to look for and acting quickly saves lives. Learn the B.E. F.A.S.T. signs and if you see any of them, call 911 right away.

This National Volunteer Week, remember when you call 911 in rural America, it’s often not a full-time crew responding…

It’s volunteers.

Over half of rural EMS agencies rely on volunteers
About 65% of firefighters are volunteer
Most departments across the U.S. are volunteer-based

At the same time:
- Volunteer numbers are declining
- Emergency calls are increasing
- Many departments are struggling to stay staffed

That means your emergency response may be your neighbors leaving work, family, and sleep to help.

This week, recognize the people holding rural EMS and fire together.

Volunteer. Support. Advocate.

It is National Volunteer Week and we are shining a bright spotlight on the incredible individuals who give their time and heart to emergency medical services! A volunteer Clinician is often the heartbeat of their community, providing professional care whenever a neighbor is in need.

We want to hear from you! Please tag your volunteer EMS service or a loved one who serves as a volunteer Clinician in the comments below. Let us celebrate their dedication together!

Today we celebrate 45 years of service, dedication, and community. Happy anniversary, Culbertson Rescue Squad!

What started with a governor’s proclamation and a handful of determined founding members going door-to-door, knocking and recruiting EMTs, has grown into something truly incredible. From those humble beginnings to now having 20+ committed members, our squad continues to stand ready at a moment’s notice.

Through the years, one thing has never changed—our mission to serve and protect our community. With impeccable response times and a team built on compassion, skill, and teamwork, we are proud of how far we’ve come and excited for the future ahead.

Thank you to every member, past and present, and to the community that continues to support us. Here’s to 45 years, and many more to come.
