Joint Statement from Sheriff Matt Gentry and District Attorney Champ Crocker.

$5,000 reward offered in Logan School vandalism.

The vandalism and destruction of the historic Logan Junior High School is repulsive, shocking and beyond words of why anyone would choose to carry out such vandalism. Several social media accounts have posted pictures from inside and outside the school which show the extent of the damage.

Sheriff Matt Gentry and District Attorney Champ Crocker are joining together and offering a total reward of $5,000 for any tips that lead to the successful arrest and conviction of any persons involved in this case.

“I encourage anyone with any tips on this case to call the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office immediately. We take this level of vandalism to property very seriously and we will work all leads and tips until there is a successful conclusion to this case,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.

“Anyone who played any part in this vandalism should turn themselves in to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office immediately. If they don’t turn themselves in I am confident with this amount of reward money being offered someone will come forward with a tip that leads to an arrest or multiple arrests. I look forward to prosecuting them when that happens,” said District Attorney Champ Crocker.

🚨Update🚨

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of the second suspect wanted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on the morning of June 11 in connection with arson and drug-related charges. The suspect has been positively identified, and next of kin have been notified.

Members of the Investigation Unit located the suspect’s remains following an extensive search that began on June 9.

Sheriff Matt Gentry stated that the community is safe and thanked the public for its support and cooperation throughout the investigation. He also commended the Investigation Unit for its dedication and perseverance during the search efforts.

“Our investigators worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours, enduring extreme heat and difficult terrain, to bring this case to a close,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “We are grateful for the dedication of our deputies and investigators and their continued commitment to serving our community and protecting our citizens.”

Suspect body found in Welti area

On June 9, 2026, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office regarding two suspects wanted in connection with arson and drug charges in Madison County. The suspects were believed to possibly be in Cullman County.

After receiving a report of a structure fire near County Road 765, patrol deputies and investigators responded to the area. The suspects were believed to be nearby due to one suspect owning property in the area.

During the search of the property deputies located one deceased individual. The second suspect remains at large and a statewide BOLO has been issued for this suspect with all law enforcement agencies.

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office will maintain a high visual presence in the County Road 765 area. We do NOT anticipate the other suspect returning to this location. However, we will maintain a high patrol presence with marked and unmarked cars for community safety.

“I appreciate the strong response from our deputies, investigators and all those who assisted us today. The safety of our citizens is our top priority and everyone here will continue to work with Madison County Sheriff’s Office to apprehend the second suspect” said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry.

“This is the side of law enforcement the public doesn’t always see. Investigations often require extensive coordination between agencies, and that’s exactly what has taken place in this case. Our detectives have remained in close contact with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, sharing information and assisting their efforts. Strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies are essential, and we’re committed to working together to bring these individuals into custody ” said Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner.

On June 2, 2026, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence on or near Colony Road in Hanceville. The operation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division with assistance from the Special Response Team.

During the search, investigators located and seized multiple illegal drugs and related evidence.

As a result of the investigation, Jerald Malcom was arrested and charged with:

* Trafficking Fentanyl
* Trafficking Methamphetamine
* Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
* Unlawful Possession of Ma*****na, Second Degree
* Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry commended the efforts of the investigators and deputies involved in the operation, praising their continued hard work and dedication to removing dangerous drugs and drug offenders from the community.

On May 30, 2026, deputies with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office were conducting routine patrol near County Road 222 and County Road 437 when they initiated a traffic stop.

During the stop, the driver was identified as Gary Hardin. After developing probable cause to search the vehicle, deputies discovered approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine.

Hardin was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine.

Sheriff Matt Gentry stated that he is proud of the hard work and dedication of our patrol deputies. “Our deputies continue to work hard every day to protect our community and remove dangerous drug offenders from our streets,” Sheriff Gentry said.
