Culloden, Georgia (Rural Living)

Culloden, Georgia (Rural Living) Culloden is a city in Monroe County, Georgia, United States. Population 250. Culloden, Georgia is where my roots began, by way of Crawford County/Roberta.

It is where my late great grandparents raised their children on property that they actually owned. Culloden (Cullo) is the best kept secret in Georgia, a beautiful rural town where everyone knows each other. I've been in love with this place since I was a child, that's why my love stories are set in this town. My family are genuine people with beautiful hearts. I hope you enjoy your journey on the Culloden, Georgia page.

Dorothy Lyman: The Charm of Naomi Harper
For all six seasons of Mama's Family, Dorothy Lyman brought sass and warmth to Naomi Harper, Thelma's spirited neighbor and Vinton's love interest. She landed the role after Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence became fans of her Emmy-winning work as Opal Gardner on All My Children β€” juggling both shows for a time, a stretch she fondly called "All My Paychecks."
Off-screen, Lyman later moved behind the camera as a director and producer on The Nanny, and even tried her hand at farming before returning to storytelling through playwriting. A true multi-hyphenate.

There's Something Sacred About Homecoming. πŸ§‘πŸ‘β›ͺ

Long before family reunions became popular, church homecomings were the heartbeat of many rural African American communities.

For those who grew up in small Southern towns, Homecoming wasn't just another Sunday service, it was a tradition that called generations back home. Families traveled from cities across the country to return to the little church where grandparents worshipped, where parents were baptized, where weddings were celebrated, and where loved ones were laid to rest.

It was a day filled with faith, fellowship, history, and heritage.

The sanctuary overflowed with familiar faces. Choirs sang songs that had been passed down for generations. Elders embraced children they hadn't seen in years. After worship, tables stretched beneath shade trees and fellowship halls, covered with fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread, sweet potato pies, peach cobblers, and recipes that carried stories as much as flavor.

Homecoming reminded us that our roots matter.

These gatherings helped preserve family history, strengthened community ties, and honored the resilience of African Americans who built churches with their own hands during some of the most difficult chapters in our nation's history. Those churches became more than places of worship, they became schools, meeting places, safe havens, and symbols of hope.

Today, many of those rural churches still stand, quietly holding generations of memories within their walls.

As we gather once again for Homecoming, we don't simply return to a building.

We return to our story.

We return to the prayers of our ancestors.

We return to the community that helped shape who we are.

Homecoming is more than a tradition. It's a homecoming of the heart. ❀️

Join us for the Annual Homecoming at St. Phillips AME Church as we celebrate our faith, our families, and the rich legacy of our community. πŸ‘πŸ™
