Structure Fire Response at 1201 S. Old Airport Rd., Lot #1
At approximately 11:40 a.m. today, the Pontiac Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1201 S. Old Airport Rd., Lot #1.
While en route, the Pontiac Police Department advised through V-COM Dispatch that all residents had safely exited the structure. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a working fire with thick, pressurized smoke pushing from the building.
Pontiac Fire Department personnel initiated fire suppression operations and vertical ventilation tactics while securing a positive water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. Additional responding Pontiac fire companies, along with Auto Aid fire departments, conducted primary and secondary searches of the structure.
During the incident, Pontiac Fire Department ambulance companies also responded to additional medical calls within the City of Pontiac, ensuring continued emergency service coverage. Ambulance personnel also provided on-scene rehabilitation for firefighters to ensure their safety after operating under high heat conditions.
The fire was subsequently brought under control.
The Pontiac Fire Investigation Unit was requested to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At the time of this release, the investigation remains ongoing, and no injuries have been reported.
Pontiac Fire Command coordinated with the American Red Cross to assist displaced residents.
Fire Chief Jacob Campbell extends his appreciation to the Auto Aid Fire Departments from Cullom, Fairbury, and Saunemin for their assistance with fire suppression efforts. He also acknowledges the operational support provided by the Pontiac Police Department, Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, V-COM Dispatch Center, ComEd, and Nicor Gas Company.
