Every foster family's story starts somewhere different. 💙

An information meeting. A co-worker's story. A mentor relationship. A phone call that changed everything.

This Foster Care Awareness Month, we shared stories from families across Virginia who opened their homes, and their hearts, to children who needed them. Their journeys weren't perfect. But they were present. And that made all the difference.

In Culpeper County we currently have 9 foster families! 3 of our 9 families are relative homes for an out of state placement. Since our post last year, we have closed out our ICPC (Interstate Placement) homes because the families adopted or had custody transferred to them! How amazing is that!

We are so thankful for all our families and the healing and love that they foster in our community through our youth and their families 💜

"If you're thinking about it... listen to that voice." 💙

Cindy Hancock didn't plan to become a foster parent. But after hearing a co-worker share their story, something clicked. As a single parent, she had real questions about finances, capacity, and whether she could do it alone.

With support from her family, her community, and local foster care teams, she realized she didn't have to figure it out by herself.

Fostering isn't about being perfect. It's about taking the next step.

This past weekend we celebrated our foster parents with a foster parent appreciation event at with the assistance of Culpeper Area. During the event DSS staff, foster parents, and the children experienced an interactive training on Fundamentals of Self Care and Mental Health by . Lunch was provided by which was delicious! A raffle was held after lunch for the parents and kids! We cannot thank our parents and our community members enough for everything they do! ☺️

During the event DSS staff, foster parents, and the children experienced an interactive training on Fundamentals of Self Care and Mental Health by The UP Guys. Everyone was laughing and smiling! Lunch was provided by 2B-Q which was delicious! A raffle was held after lunch for the parents and kids! We cannot thank our parents and our community members for everything they do! ☺️
