You probably don't want a heavy industrial facility next to an elementary school. You probably don't want a dense subdivision dropped into the middle of Fauquier's best farmland.

Zoning exists to prevent exactly that.

By separating land uses, zoning protects residential neighborhoods, preserves agricultural areas, and ensures that essential infrastructure and services can operate where they're actually needed.

It's not about blocking all change. It's about creating the order and predictability that communities depend on.

Turns out the Yeat Substation, that crowning jewel at the northern end of the Valley Link Transmission debacle, named after some wealth flexing rapper no less, could actually be the silver bullet to kill this eyesore once and for all. Who knew? Apparently not me at first, but shockingly, those oh-so-powerful local planning commissions and boards of supervisors can actually veto these monstrosities. Just peek at Dominion Energy's dusty old maps: Yeat was originally slated for Fauquier County, but those elites weren't having it and booted the whole mess down to Culpeper like yesterday's trash. Rest assured, there's zero shot of shuffling this disaster into Orange County—their board would laugh it out of the room before the ink dried. So, Culpeper Board of Supervisors, planning commission, and dear, suffering citizens: how about stepping up and doing the other eight counties a massive favor by squashing this corporate nightmare flat? All eyes are glued to you, Culpeper—don't choke now. Citizens, quit scrolling and start screaming: flood your supervisors with calls and emails ASAP. For your convenience, here's their contact info:

“The change right here is to implement more control for you [Underwood] and the three new board members…again circumnavigating the structure that we’ve had for decades..."
This board is about King Underwood's control of the county to ensure he and his buddies make their money. This is only the beginning. Disobey and you're fired.

Sam McLearen was hired to the role Feb. 1, 2025 and was a 25-year employee of Culpeper County; Farrish says they were elected to implement change.
