Culpeper Regional Airport marked National Aviation Day yesterday with a special event honoring the memory of animal rescue pilot Seuk Kim.

Kim tragically lost his life in 2024 while transporting rescue dogs, and his work continues through Seuk's Army and the pilots and volunteers who carry on that mission.

Several of the puppies at yesterday's event also have a special connection to Seuk's legacy. Their mother was flown to Culpeper on June 28th, Seuk's birthday, and gave birth to eight puppies later that night. The puppies were named in honor of Seuk and his family.

Thank you to the Culpeper Regional Airport and all those who took part in honoring Seuk's legacy.

Board Chairman Tom Underwood weighs in on the use of projected data center revenue for a county jail.

The Board continues to work with law enforcement, judicial officials, and community stakeholders as it considers the best path forward for the decades ahead.

Specifically, the newly formed Jail Working Group will hold its first meeting on September 8th at 1 PM at 302 N. Main St. The meeting will also be available virtually via livestream.

A remarkable rescue and a great example of neighbors helping neighbors.

On August 9, the Little Fork Volunteer Technical Large Animal Rescue Team responded to Fauquier County to help rescue Comet, a one-year-old husky-malamute mix who had become trapped in a well.

After nearly an hour and a half of difficult rescue work, crews were able to safely bring Comet back to the surface and reunite him with his owner.

Culpeper County is grateful for the dedicated volunteers who train for situations like this and stand ready to assist communities throughout our region.

Brandy Station came out in full force yesterday evening for the annual Brandy Station Volunteer Firemen’s Parade.

With families lining the route, local groups taking part, and plenty of fire trucks, tractors, and music along the way, the parade was a great showcase of the community that makes Brandy Station special.

Thank you to the Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department, all of the parade participants and volunteers, and everyone who came out to show their support.

SPECIAL CALLED MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Called Meeting on Tuesday August 11, at 10:30am in the Board of Supervisors meeting room at 302 N. Main Street.

During the meeting, the Board will discuss and consider the appointment of a new County Administrator.

The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed.

Today marks the 164th anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Mountain.

On August 9, 1862, Union and Confederate forces met on the fields beneath Cedar Mountain in one of the major engagements of the Civil War's Northern Virginia Campaign.

This weekend, visitors returned to the battlefield to learn more about the battle, those who fought there, and the history that unfolded here in Culpeper County.

More than 160 years later, Cedar Mountain remains an important part of our community's history and a reminder of the importance of preserving the places where that history happened.
