THE CULPEPER MIDDLE SCHOOL CHORAL CONCERT HIT ALL THE RIGHT NOTES!
I thoroughly enjoyed the Choral Concert on Tuesday evening… and with 6 different choral groups from Culpeper Middle School… there was talent, energy, and musical variety galore!

Under the skillful direction of Choral music teacher Mr. Adam Hughes, each ensemble showcased several of their award winning performances. The Auditorium was filled with not only with positive messages & toe-tapping songs, but with an enthusiastic audience as well!

Several pieces of artwork were also on display in the lobby for all to enjoy… and I appreciated the sizable cadre of CMS teachers & volunteers assisting Mr. Hughes and the choir students with all aspects of the show.

So… here’s a heartfelt “Bravo” to the CMS choral music students & Mr. Hughes — and to everyone associated with them — for an outstanding concert!

I really enjoyed your performances, and your future concerts will definitely have a place on my calendar.

Congratulations, Cougars!!!

P. S. — And guess what? Too funny… I won one of the ~15 gift basket raffles… a Chocolate Lover’s Basket… Thank you & Yum!

THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE YOUNG MEN FROM A.G. RICHARDSON AND THE CTEC CULINARY ARTS STUDENTS REINFORCED ALL THAT IS GOOD IN EDUCATION!
Last Thursday, there was a synergistic effect between the A.G. Richardson Elementary School Becoming A Man (BAM) Club members and the CTEC Culinary Arts students.

Under the tutelage of AGR teachers Mr. Downs, Mr. Ortman, Mr. Berger, and Mr. Hallett… with assistance from male role models & community leaders… 30 4th & 5th grade young men in the BAM Club have been learning about manners and expectations, etiquette and social skills… all while building a cadre of support and “Becoming A Man” at AGR.

Under the tutelage of CTEC Chef Cohen (who is also a FCCLA Master Advisor), students in the Culinary Arts program have been refining their food preparation and cooking techniques, improving their serving skills, and creating a variety of dining experiences for clients and guests at CTEC.

And so it was… on Thursday, April 25, 2024… for the inaugural BAM Etiquette Dinner… The Blaze Kitchen students prepared and served a 3-course meal, in a fine dining atmosphere, to the AGR BAM Club members at CTEC!

The confidence of the young men grew visibly throughout the evening… and interactions between the young men in BAM and Chef Cohen & the male upperclassmen in Culinary Arts were genuine, thoughtful, and inspiring.

Thank you… Gentleman, All (and Ladies)… for your coordinated efforts in producing the BAM Etiquette Dinner… and for making lasting impressions and creating valuable memories for students at both AGRES and CTEC!

I was honored to be a small part of your remarkable evening… Congratulations!

And CTEC Principal Mr. Summerscales reported several job offers were made today, too!

ALL CULPEPER SCHOOLS TO JOIN COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROGRAM:
THIS MEANS... ALL CCPS STUDENTS WILL EAT BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR FREE IN 2024-2025!

Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) announces that all schools will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program for the 2024-25 school year.

At the April 22, 2024 School Board work session, the School Board voted to enroll all schools in the CEP program for next year. This means that all elementary, middle and high school students will be able to participate in the breakfast and lunch program at no charge. Household applications will not be required to receive free meals.

The CEP is part of the federally funded National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program and eliminates the need for schools to collect household income applications by sharing eligibility data between specific Federal assistance programs. In the past, schools were required to have an identified student percentage of 40 percent or higher to elect the CEP program. Recently, that percentage changed to 25 percent, which makes all schools in CCPS eligible.

For the last two school years, Farmington, Pearl Sample and Sycamore Park Elementary Schools have been a part of the CEP program. When these three elementary schools initially joined the CEP program in 2022, the Culpeper County School Board decided to provide free meals at all elementary schools, by covering the cost for students who did not qualify for free or reduced meals at the non-CEP schools. Last year, our middle schools also joined the CEP program, leaving just our high school students paying for school meals in 2023-2024. This will change next year, as they will join the other schools in the CEP program.

Division Superintendent Dr. Tony Brads stated, “We are extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity for all schools to join the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program! This progression is consistent with previous action and intent of our School Board to provide nutritious meals for all students at no cost.” He added, “Studies have repeatedly shown that students are more attentive, engaged, and productive if they are not hungry and this program is another way we can help address food insecurity for our students, families, and the community.”

THE FFA BANQUET IS ALWAYS AN IMPRESSIVE EVENT!
I was honored to attend my 28th annual Future Farmers of America (FFA) Banquet... in Culpeper... at EVHS, on April 18, 2024.

As always, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies were full of time-honored traditions.

The accomplishments of the 2023-2024 Officer Team & the EVHS FFA members were impressive, across a wide range of agricultural pursuits & FFA Degrees. I am sure the new 2024-2025 Officer Team will continue to carry on the fine EVHS FFA legacy!

And how nice that Superintendent Dr. Brads and School Board member Mrs. Hutchins each received an EVHS Honorary Chapter FFA Degree — Congratulations!!

Of course… all of this would not be possible without the steadfast, dedicated, and tireless leadership of our exemplary EVHS FFA Advisors… Mrs. Suder, Ms. Shinn, and Mr. Duncan! Well done!!

Thank you to all the EVHS FFA members & Advisors for giving so much of yourselves for the betterment of others and the Culpeper community. 💙💛

IT WAS A BRIGHT DAY AT THE CULPEPERPALOOZA… DESPITE THE OVERCAST SKIES!
Yesterday… David Foster, the owner of Mountain Run Winery, announced… that as of Saturday evening… the 3rd annual Culpeperpalooza weekend had raised $10K for community music education in Culpeper!

Sunday’s Culpeperpalooza performances featured student vocalists, student musicians of all ages (including violinists & ukulele players), student Thespians, and Virginia Reel dancers… as well as face-painting artists, up-close-and-personal Birds of Prey demonstrations by EarthQuest, and a variety of artisan vendors & community non-profit organizations.

Naturally… Rascal & Weeza — the Pearson Pups — were magnets for people…
And I met students and families from homeschools, private schools, AG Richardson, Emerald Hill, Floyd T. Binns, Culpeper MS, CCHS, and EVHS… all connected by a love of music, Fine Arts, quality education… and of course, dogs!

Sunday’s Cul”PEP”erpalooza was also a Cul”PUP”erpalooza… and we enjoyed hearing about many students’ positive educational experiences, favorite classes, and future plans.

Congratulations to Mountain Run Winery, the performers, and the generous sponsors & donors for a very successful Culpeperpalooza 2024!!!

THE INAUGURAL ART SHOW AT FARMINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WAS FABULOUS!
Congratulations to Ms. Coloney (Art teacher), all the young student artists, and the faculty & staff at Farmington Elementary School for arranging their inaugural Art Show on April 18, 2024!

Artwork from the Farmington students in each grade level included… Pre-K “Cherry Blossoms”, K & 1st Grade “Monet Inspired Water Lilies”, 2nd & 3rd Grade “Spring Flowers”, and 4th & 5th Grade “Insects”… and the Farmington selections from the CCPS Youth Art Show were also featured.

All the artwork was displayed in an accessible manner so students could proudly share their creations with family and friends… and the Paint Scrape Art, Face Painting, Origami, and free drawing stations were also very popular. A slide show and soothing music added to the overall ambiance.

Bravo to all the Fantastic Farmington Foxes for such a successful school Art Show! (We are already looking forward to next year!) 💙🦊🎨💚

THE CHILLY WEATHER DIDN’T DAMPEN THE SPIRITS OF EVERYONE AT THE 18th ANNUAL SPECIAL GAMES!
After a 6 year hiatus… I was grateful to assist (behind the scenes) at the 2024 Special Games, for 300 students in Culpeper, Orange, Madison, and Rappahannock Counties.

Thank you to our CCPS “Organization Team Extraordinaire” for coordinating the event so smoothly — and for allowing me to offer congratulations to the special competitors, encouragement to the parents & families, and thanks to the teachers & caregivers & event supporters… all under the guise of prepping hamburgers & hotdogs, distributing plates & utensils, and calling patrons to our food lines.

Today it was good to again be part of something larger than myself.
