Yesterday marked the 212th anniversary of the day Francis Scott Key wrote a poem called "The Star-Spangled Banner". Our older students play this song regularly at sporting event and in class (practicing). Did you know that Key did not write the music for the song we know today as The Star-Spangled Banner? He wrote the words, but the music came from a song called "To Anacreon in Heaven" and was written by a man named John Stafford Smith. The song we know today became the official national anthem on March 3, 1931, some 117 years after Key wrote the poem.

We watched the plane hit the second tower and first tower fall. For the rest of the day, everyone watched tv news as we went from period to period. I know I’ll never forget those 9 kids or how that day unfolded. After school, the teachers gathered for a staff meeting where we simply prayed and talked about how to proceed for the rest of the week. One thing I’ll never forget was watching the Star-Spangled Banner being played at Buckingham Palace and the American tourists that were basically trapped in England because of the grounding of all aircraft in the US.

This broke centuries of English Tradition to play our National Anth...
