We think Big Night is TONIGHT!! 🐸🦎

Please, drive carefully on Range Road as volunteers and amphibians will be in the road!!

Traffic Notice - Range Road

Each year, the Chebeague and Cumberland Land Trust participates in a state-wide scientific study of “Big Night”. The weather conditions dictate when Big Night occurs - the amphibians need thawed ground and a steady rain at night. Conditions are lining up for a potential Big Night THIS WEEK, from about 8:00pm - 10:00pm.

We will update when we know a specific date!

The Cumberland Police Department will be slowing traffic just north and south of the amphibian highway, the stretch of Range Road along Frog Pond & Salamander Swamp (across from Rines Forest). The road will not be closed for this event.

Please use caution if traveling in this area. There will be a a large group of volunteers, who will be helping identify and count the frogs and salamanders as they make their annual migration. That means, there will be both people and amphibians in the road - so for everyone's safety, drive slowly and follow all signs and officer directions.

Check out the CCLT website for more info about Big Night: https://www.ccltmaine.org/

Cumberland Neighbors,

Winter is here, the snow is flying, and Santa isn’t the only one trying to get to your house 🎅❄️

Please help your local first responders by shoveling pathways and exits to your home. Fire hoses, stretchers, and turnout gear don’t play nicely with deep snow, and clear access to your doors can make a big difference when it matters most.

While you’re out there, give a little love to the fire hydrants near your home too — the best time to dig them out is before there’s an emergency (and not during one).

And one last holiday bonus: people making deliveries to your property will thank you profusely.

Thanks for helping keep Cumberland safe, warm, and merry this winter. 💫

If you've got your head screwed on just right
And you'd like some boots that don't fit too tight
Or, the most likely reason of all...
Your heart's never been accused of being too small
Whatever the reason - the heart or the boots
If you have the courage to stand firm in your roots
If you hustle, you help, you answer the call,
If you stand up for Cumber-ville, neighbors and all
Step up. Stand tall. Be part of the crew.
Cumber-ville’s safety starts right here—with you.

If you’ve got:
💚💚💚A heart that’s grown at least three sizes
❄️❄️❄️A sense of humor (essential during long winters)
☑️☑️☑️The integrity to do what's right

…then you might be exactly WHO we’re looking for.

Officer D’Ascanio recently participated in the week-long Wreaths Across America convoy to Arlington National Cemetery.

Along the journey, multiple ceremonies were held to honor our nation’s heroes, including stops at the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the World War II Memorial on Friday.

On Saturday, the convoy honored the fallen at Arlington National Cemetery, taking part in the solemn tradition of placing rememberance wreaths on the graves and saying their names.

The Cumberland Police Department is forever humbled to have a small role in one of the greatest annual journeys - honoring veterans, remembering our fallen, and teaching the next generation to never forget the sacrifices made for our freedom. 🇺🇸
