Methamphetamine arrest and stolen handgun  recovered in New York section!

Last night, Cumberland Police Department officers Aaron Smith and Tim Price served two arrest warrants on an individual in the New York Section of Cumberland.

During the investigation and arrest, officers recovered several grams of suspected m**hamphetamine, digital scales, additional drug paraphernalia, and a stolen handgun.

The subject was taken to the Harlan County Detention Center and is currently being held on a $10,000 cash bond.

The Cumberland Police Department asks citizens to report any suspicious or drug activity tips to 606-589-2105

🚨 Public Notice – Controlled Burn 🚨

On Friday, April 17, 2026, there will be a controlled burn conducted near US 119 in the areas of Veterans Park and Sleepy Hollow Golf Course. This will be overseen by The Cumberland Fire Dept. along with other local departments and trained personnel.

Residents may see smoke or flames during this time. Please be advised that this is a planned and monitored operation—there is no need to report it.

Thank you for your understanding as crews work to safely manage the area.

He**in and m**h trafficking arrests!

On 1-17-2026 CPD officers Aaron Smith, Sean Halcomb and Paul Bailey was assisted by Harlan county sheriffs office deputies Jeremy Jones and Chauncey Tudor serving a felony warrant in New York section.

The arrest of the wanted subject and investigation led to several individuals being arrested for possession of m**hamphetamine, trafficking m**hamphetamine, trafficking he**in, drug paraphernalia and a convicted felon possession of a handgun charges.
