We are the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, founded in 1955 and incorporated in 1957. We protect and serve the town of Cumberland and the surrounding areas, in the heart of Cumberland County, Virginia. We operate six units out of our six bay fire station on Old Buckingham Road (Rt. 13), a mile east of Cumberland Court House. We respond to all types of calls, from house fires to vehicle accide

nts, technical rescue, natural disasters, to assisting the local rescue squads and providing mutual aide to surrounding counties, we handle it all. We also have a Junior Firefighter program that allows 16 and 17 year olds to join the ranks and volunteer or start them on a pathway to a life long career in public service!

Last night at 2044, Cumberland VFD was dispatched to the 29 block of Brumskill Ln for a smoke investigation. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from behind the siding of a mobile home. Once siding was removed, fire was located in the subfloor and quickly extinguished. Crews operated on the scene for about 1 hour.

(Overnight) CVFD was dispatched to the 3000 block of Cumberland Rd for a vehicle fire with reported entrapment. Engine 24 arrived to find a vehicle vs. tree with heavy damage and fully involved. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and located the occupant in the car. Unfortunately the occupant was pronounced at the scene. Crews remained on scene for an extended period to provide lighting while VSP conducted the investigation.

Technical Rescue Incident: Cumberland VFD was dispatched to the 1200 block of Anderson Highway for a tree worker stuck in a cherry picker bucket about 50' in the air.

Fire crews arrived and upon investigation, found the PTO drive for the hydraulic pump had failed. Crews attempted to reset and manually override the hydraulic system without success. Powhatan County Fire and Rescue was contacted to dispatch a ladder truck for assistance.

Truck 701 responded to the scene and was able to remove the worker who was not injured during the incident.

6/20/26 @ 0922 Cumberland VFD was dispatched to Almond Ln for a reported camper on fire near a structure. Crews arrived to find a fully involved camper with a nearby home as an exposure.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent major damage to the house.
