If you have visited The Wilds, you have likely seen the vast, gently rolling pastures that make this landscape so unique.
Behind those open spaces is ongoing ecology work focused on caring for the habitats that support wildlife. Healthy prairies, forests, wetlands, and streams provide food, shelter, and balance for animals, and teams at The Wilds work to restore and maintain these ecosystems over time.
Liza Butler, Restoration Ecology Associate at The Wilds, grew up loving the outdoors and knew early on that she wanted a career connected to nature. Today, she helps manage thousands of acres of reclaimed surface-mined land at The Wilds, including native prairies, forests, wetlands, and streams that wildlife depend on.
Through restoration and habitat management, The Wilds is helping transform former mine land into thriving habitat for wildlife. As habitat loss continues to affect species worldwide, this work helps support healthier ecosystems and creates lasting benefits for wildlife and conservation in Ohio and beyond.
When you give to The Wilds, you help provide the tools, expertise, and resources that allow us to continue caring for and improving these habitats while protecting species around the world.
