TEMPORARY BURN BAN - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
The City of Cumby has placed a temporary burn ban into effect due to dry conditions and increased fire danger in our area.

Hopkins County has also issued a burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Hopkins County.

Residents are asked to avoid all outdoor burning, including brush, leaves, and other open fires. Please use extra caution with anything that could create spark, such as welding, chains, ci******es, and outdoor machinery.

Please help protect our community, properties, and first responders.

If you see an uncontrolled fire or have an emergency, call 911 immediately.

The City of Cumby is Hiring!

We are accepting applications for a **full-time Public Works Maintenance Worker**. This position plays an important role in maintaining the City’s infrastructure and essential services that keep our community running strong.

Primary duties include:

• Operating and maintaining water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• Performing water main, valve, and service line repairs
• Street maintenance, patching, signage, and general upkeep
• Mowing, w**d eating, and grounds maintenance
• Operating and maintaining City equipment and vehicles
• Other duties supporting the Public Works Department

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license, and at least two years of relevant experience. Candidates must also be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and obtain required TCEQ water and wastewater certifications.

The City offers competitive wages based on experience and qualifications, a monthly medical stipend, TMRS retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.

The City is aware of a hydraulic oil spill at the intersection of Highway 499 and Frisco Street.

TXDOT has been notified and is responding to the situation.
Please use caution if you must travel through this area, as road conditions have been affected.

If possible, consider using an alternate route until the spill has been cleaned up.

Boil Water Notice Rescinded
June 23, 2026

On June 16, 2026, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Cumby’s public water system to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of June 23, 2026.

Get to know your tower - if you don't already. 💧
On the side of the tower you've probably noticed the black dot (level marker)⚫ that moves up and down. The higher the marker is on the tower the lower the water level is. At the bottom of the tower is an "F", that means the tower is full.
If you ever see the black dot getting near the top, please call us.
Halfway is normal and even 3/4, but never higher than that.

The City is aware that there is little to no water pressure. We are pushing water to the tower now. The switch that turns the pumps on to push water to the tower has malfunctioned. Last week we scheduled for repairs, however, parts are a couple of weeks out.
