***POST IS OUTDATED***
Elevated fire 🔥 danger is expected Sunday afternoon. The greatest chance for fires to get out of control will be across portions of central/northeast Missouri where winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, relative humidity will be 25 to 30 percent, and fuel moisture will be low. Please be careful and consider moving any planned burns to a different day.

A storm system will bring accumulating snow to the region Saturday night through Sunday. Snowfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches are forecast across the region with the highest amounts along and just south of the I-70 corridor. Although these forecast snow amounts will likely change as we get closer to the event, anyone planning on traveling during this period will need to stay tuned to the latest forecasts.

Snow and freezing drizzle will impact the forecast area this afternoon and evening. Northeast MO and west central IL could potentially see 1 to 2 inches of snow. East central MO will see a mix of light snow and freezing drizzle though the afternoon and evening. This light snow and freezing drizzle could affect the evening rush. All precip will move out of the area by late this evening.

“It’s insane,” Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District Fire Chief Dennis Reilly said. “Every weather forecaster has been talking about the high fire hazard warnings, and still everyone continues to burn.”

02/28/2017

Multi-faceted hazardous weather day on Tuesday. The middle part of the day will bring fire weather concerns to the area. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Strong storms will be possible later Tuesday night. The best chance for storms will be well south and east of the KC metro, but even the KC area could see a few strong storms.
