Elevated to critical fire danger continues through the weekend. The most dangerous conditions will be on Saturday, when outdoor burning should be avoided! Parts of Woodbury County are still under a burn ban.

Urgent Woodbury County Alert: A BURN BAN HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR SEVERAL FIRE DISTRICTS IN WOODBURY COUNTY BEGINNING TODAY AT 1PM CST. DISTRICTS WHERE OPEN BURNING IS BANNED INCLUDE: ANTHON, CORRECTIONVILLE, CUSHING, DANBURY, MOVILLE, OTO, PIERSON, SALIX, SERGEANT BLUFF, AND SLOAN.
The Cushing Fire Department is asking for everyone to NOT do any open burning, no trash burning, to properly dispose of smoking materials, and be mindful of safety chains when towing. Please Dial 911 if you spot any smoke or fire.
We also would appreciate any area farmers to consider having a tractor and disc ready in case they are needed. They can be one of the most effective ways to suppress field fires.

We want to thank all the fire departments that showed up at the field fire southeast of Cushing this afternoon. And a special thanks to the tractors and discs that showed up. (We think we counted twelve but there could have been more.) We couldn’t have tamed that fire down without you.

We are just three weeks away from the Cushing Firemen's Stag. All-you-can-eat hors d'oeuvres, salad, New York strip and baked potato, plus your drinks. And don't forget the ham and roast beef sliders! Good friends – Good times. We have it all.

We had an issue with the card reader on the new pop machine but the service tech replaced a board in it today and it seems to be working now.

Also the sensors, when putting cash into the money receptacle, are further back because of the card reader. Make sure you are pushing your cash further into the machine so the sensor will activate and pull the cash into the machine. The pop machine is accepting $5 bills now as well.

No need to take anything out of the freezer for dinner tonight. We've got that handled. Come to our Drive-Thru BBQ Fundraiser tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 PM for pork roast sandwiches, baked beans and chips for a free-will donation.

(For local residents within our fire district who have compromised health conditions, we offer home delivery. Please call 712-384-2781 between 4:30 to 5:30 to schedule a delivery.)

If you are not able to attend, we ask that you remember us at this time. All of us hope we will never need the fire and rescue department but we all know that it is needed. Your generosity in the past and in to the future will ensure that YOUR department is properly equipped and trained to help you at any time. Exciting news! We have a new pop machine in Cushing. The old one frequently refused to accept either cash or coins and maybe both on occasion. No cash - No problem. The new machine has a car reader along with a chip reader so you can either swipe or tap to pay. We have also added some new flavors like A&W Root Beer, Power Ade Blue, Dasani Water and Monster Green.
