Oklahoma summers can be brutal, and heat-related illnesses can happen faster than many people realize. Whether youβre spending the day at the lake, working outside, mowing the yard, or attending a ballgame, itβs important to recognize the warning signs.
π₯ Heat Exhaustion
* Heavy sweating
* Dizziness or weakness
* Nausea
* Headache
* Muscle cramps
* Cool, clammy skin
π¨ Heat Stroke is a Medical Emergency
* Body temperature above 104Β°F
* Confusion or altered behavior
* Slurred speech
* Seizures
* Loss of consciousness
* Hot, red skin (may be dry or sweaty)

How to Stay Safe
* Drink water before youβre thirsty
* Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
* Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
* Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day
* Never leave children or pets in a vehicle
If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately. Move them to a cooler area, remove excess clothing, and begin cooling them with cold water, ice packs, or fans while waiting for help.
Heat stroke can happen to anyoneβand it can become life-threatening in minutes. Stay aware, stay hydrated, and look out for one another this summer.
