This goes a long way for public safety in the area.

📢We are incredibly grateful to announce that Custer Ambulance Service has received a $10,000 grant from the First Interstate Custer Area Fund, a permanently endowed fund within the South Dakota Community Foundation.

This funding will help purchase a generator for our building, ensuring our service can continue operating and serving our community during power outages and emergencies. Reliable power means reliable patient care — no matter the circumstances.

The Custer County Sheriff's Office wants to make sure everyone has a safe Memorial Day weekend by wearing their seatbelts while traveling in our beautiful state. Our office will out as part of the national “Click it or Ticket it” seat belt enforcement mobilization, cracking down on motorists who are not belted until the end of the month. Seat belts do save thousands of lives every year, but far too many motorists are still not buckling up, that’s why we’ll be out 24-7 to cut down on the number of people that are killed or injured because they weren’t buckled up. Join us in congratulating Lt Steve McMillin on a well deserved retirement after 26 years in Law Enforcement. Lt McMillin has faithfully served the citizens of Custer County the last 19 years and will be dearly missed. Enjoy retirement Steve, you earned it.

There is an active wildland fire in the East Gate/Wildlife loop area of Custer State Park. Please avoid the area so fire crews can operate safely.

Also please keep your drones out of the area. There are air assets working on the fire. If you fly, we can't.

We hate to be repetitive but another Red Flag Warning starting tomorrow May 13th at noon for parts of Custer County until Thursday evening.

The combination of very warm temperatures, low relative humidity, and breezy winds will produce critical fire weather conditions across much of western South Dakota Monday afternoon and early evening.
