CVFD responded to a structure fire incident this morning with 4 apparatus and 9 firefighters. Upon arrival, it was determined the homeowner had successfully extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher, minimizing potential damage. Our investigation confirmed a faulty heater as the fire's cause. We're grateful the owner was on scene, given the structure's typical use as a summer cabin. Thanks are due to Custer County Sheriff, Custer Ambulance Service, Inc., Custer County South Dakota Emergency Management, and our of course our team for their support.

UPDATE: Multiple air and ground resources have been ordered.

Crews are currently on scene a wildland fire south of Highway 16A in Custer State Park at approximately MM 38-37. NO evacuations have been ordered at this time!
