🚁🚑 Great day of training with Black Hills Life Flight 7 Hot Springs, Custer County SD Search & Rescue, Custer Volunteer Fire Department, Argyle Volunteer Fire Department, South Dakota, and Pringle Volunteer Fire Department!

Thanks to Black Hills Life Flight 7 Hot Springs for leading a landing zone training that gave our agencies valuable hands-on practice. Practicing landing zone operations together is exactly the kind of training that makes a real difference in an emergency. When every agency knows the procedures and trusts each other, response times improve and outcomes are better for the people we serve.
Grateful for these partnerships and for agencies who show up to train side by side. This is what teamwork in Custer County looks like! 🚁🚑🚒⛑️

😊A huge thank you to Calamity Jane’s Kitchen in Custer for going above and beyond for our crews a few days ago!

Shortly after placing a food order, our ambulance crews were called to an emergency call before their food arrived. Instead of letting the meals go cold, the amazing staff at Calamity Jane’s delivered the food right to the ambulance station for us.

We are incredibly grateful for the kindness and support from our community and local businesses like Calamity Jane’s Kitchen . Thank you for taking care of the crews who are always ready to answer the call! 🚑❤️

📢We are incredibly grateful to announce that Custer Ambulance Service has received a $10,000 grant from the First Interstate Custer Area Fund, a permanently endowed fund within the South Dakota Community Foundation.

This funding will help purchase a generator for our building, ensuring our service can continue operating and serving our community during power outages and emergencies. Reliable power means reliable patient care — no matter the circumstances.

To make sure our EMTs and Paramedics are physically prepared for the demands of the job, all field staff are required to complete a “Pack Test.” This test simulates real-world conditions, measuring strength, endurance, and the ability to perform under physical stress—just like we may need to do during emergencies, long transports, or challenging rescue situations.

🚑 EMT Class Update! 🚑

We are so proud of the progress our hybrid Advanced/Basic EMT students have been making! These dedicated students have been putting in the work both in and out of the classroom, and it shows.

Over the past few weeks, students have been sharpening their skills in some key areas:

🩺 Patient Assessment – Learning to quickly and accurately assess patients is one of the most critical skills an EMT can have, and our students are rising to the challenge.

💉 IV Skills – Starting IVs takes practice, patience, and precision. Our students have been drilling this hands-on skill and making great strides!

💊 Medication Doses – Knowing the right medication and the right dose can be the difference between life and death. Our students are hitting the books and the simulations to make sure they've got it down.
