The "Summer Slide" is Real—But Easily Fixed
Research shows that children who do not read over the summer can lose up to 2-3 months of reading progress from the previous school year. This cumulative loss is often called the "summer slide." However, the fix is incredibly simple: reading just 4 to 6 books over the summer break has been shown to prevent this reading loss and keep elementary students right on track for the fall.
