Cut Bank Public Schools Hosts “Reading Under the Lights” Literacy Night
Cut Bank, MT-October 23, 2025 Thanks to funding from the Montana Reads Grant, Cut Bank Public Schools hosted a special literacy event on October 22nd titled “Reading Under the Lights.” We are grateful for all the families who attended and made it a special night.
The football stadium lights shone bright as families gathered for an evening celebrating the joy of reading. Students from the National Honor Society, Football Team, Volleyball Team, Cross Country Team and Cheerleading Squad volunteered their time to make the event memorable. The high school students read alongside kindergarten through third-grade students, served them cookies and hot chocolate, and played with the kids on the football field.
“It was such a fun night!” said Jeanine Sundby, expressing gratitude to the student-athletes and their coaches. “They all worked hard to make it a wonderful event, and we are so thankful for their enthusiasm and support.”
The event highlighted the district’s ongoing commitment to fostering a love of reading among young learners. Building on this success, Cut Bank Public Schools plans to collaborate with the Glacier County Library to host another community literacy event in the spring.

“Steptember” Event at the Elementary Schools
Cut Bank Trails recently celebrated the success of its annual Steptember event, a community-wide initiative encouraging residents to get outside and stay active by walking the local trails or simply getting out for a daily walk.

This year, HC Davis Elementary and Anna Jeffries Elementary students joined in the fun, thanks to the enthusiasm of Ms. Hawks, the PE teacher at HC Davis and Anna Jeffries Schools who incorporated the challenge into their school activities.

To recognize their efforts, Cut Bank Trails Board Members Arkaidy Wisniowska, Gabe Taylor, and Jeanine Sundby visited both schools to hand out prizes. The prizes were purchased from local businesses, highlighting the event’s community spirit and support for local merchants. Adding to the excitement, the Cut Bank Masonic Lodge No. 82 generously donated six sleds to be given away to participating students.

Cody Krapf of the Masonic Lodge also attended the event, closing the prize giveaway with an inspiring message that encouraged students to be kind and respectful and listen to their parents and teachers.

Board members shared that they hope to partner with local schools again next year to make Steptember even bigger and better. The event was a wonderful example of how collaboration between schools, local organizations, and community members can promote health, wellness, and community pride.

Cut Bank Trails thanks everyone who participated and supported this year’s Steptember event, it was truly a great experience!
