Starting July 29, 2021, the Glacier County Health Department and Northern Rockies Medical Center will offer “Montana: Living Life Well” at the Northern Rockies Medical Center conference room, from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. The free class meets once a week for six weeks. This program is for people with chronic conditions or anyone who cares for someone with a chronic condition. For more information or to sign-up contact the Health Department at 873-2924

The Glacier County WIC office is currently closed to the public. If you have an appointment scheduled, the WIC staff will be contacting you to complete it over the phone. You will continue to receive and be able to use your benefits as long as your certification is active.

Monthly Featured Vegetable!

Sweet Potato

Try sweet potatoes - the official vegetable of North Carolina!
Tip: Cut sweet potato into cubes and add the cubes to soup, stew or chili.
• Sweet potatoes should be firm, smooth shaped and have clean skin.
• Store unwashed in a dry, dark, cool place for 3-5 weeks.
• Scrub well under cold water and remove skin with vegetable peeler. If roasting or baking whole, keep the skin on.
• Eat stir-fried, baked, roasted or grilled.
• Tastes great with carrot, ham, lime, nuts or pineapple.
• Season with chili pepper, cinnamon, curry powder or maple syrup.

Starting simple is a great way to try out a new vegetable, like sweet potatoes. Here are a couple easy ways to enjoy them.
1. Cut sweet potato into cubes and add the cubes to soup, stew or chili.
2. Next time you make mashed potatoes, use half sweet potatoes and half white potatoes.
