RANDOLPH COUNTY FIRE/RESCUE SENDS ASSISTANCE TO BRANTLEY COUNTY
4/26/2026 -Randolph County Captain Fabian Thomas, firefighter Dylan Anderson, Fire-Medic Jennifer Pearson, and firefighter EMT Martie Pearson fueled up engine 7, and command 1 this morning headed to Brantley County in response to the massive wildland fire which has consumed over 21,000 acres and destroyed at least 120 homes as of Friday. Randolph County joins dozens of other agencies across the state called to assist by the Georgia Mutual Aid Group (GMAG) which coordinates mutual aid request from communities in need. We will post more updates as our personnel report back the changing conditions in Brantley County. Please keep the people affected by these fires and the personnel responding to them in your prayers.

The Georgia Forestry Commission has issued a Burn Ban that covers 91 counties. Current wildfire locations are showed on this map as well. Please refrain from burning outdoors. Follow all local guidance and restrictions and be extremely cautious with anything that could create a spark.

⚠️ Severe Weather Risk Ahead ⚠️

A strong cold front will move through Georgia on Monday with the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms ahead of it. Scattered showers and storms could pop up on Sunday afternoon and evening, but the bulk of severe weather should begin to move into western Georgia early Monday morning. The window for severe thunderstorms in Georgia will be early Monday morning through Monday afternoon. Damaging winds and tornadoes will be possible in any severe thunderstorms.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Georgia in a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather on Monday. Portions of central Georgia have been upgraded to an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather starting tonight. A broken line of storms will begin to move into Georgia on Monday morning and progress eastward. Storms should end from west to east throughout Monday afternoon.

An unseasonably cold airmass will move in behind the front on Monday afternoon. There will be a sharp drop in temperatures immediately behind the cold front, and some scattered snow showers will be possible in North Georgia Monday afternoon and evening. Surface temperatures will be several degrees above freezing with road temperatures even higher, so accumulations and impacts are unlikely with any snowfall. Low temperatures will bottom out in the upper 20s for most of North Georgia on Tuesday and Wednesday before a warming trend kicks in later in the week.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for SE AL, FL Panhandle, and much of SW GA until 6pm CST/7pm EST this evening. Trends will be monitored for any adjustments going forward. Less certainty on the squall line's intensity, especially on the southern edge down into the FL Big Bend off the cool waters of Apalachee Bay kept those counties out of the Watch at this time.

* WHAT...For the Wind Advisory, southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with
gusts up to 45 mph expected. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very
cold wind chills of 17 to 25 expected. For the Extreme Cold Watch,
dangerously cold wind chills of 9 to 15 possible. For the Freeze
Watch, a hard freeze with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 17
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast Alabama, the Big Bend and Panhandle
of Florida, and southwest Georgia.

* WHEN...For the Wind Advisory, from noon EST /11 AM CST/ today to 6
PM EST /5 PM CST/ this evening. For the Cold Weather Advisory,
from 4 AM EST /3 AM CST/ to 10 AM EST /9 AM CST/ Monday. For the
Extreme Cold Watch and Freeze Watch, from Monday evening through
Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Wind
chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive
vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects.

Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or
mittens if you have plans to be outdoors.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes
they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those
that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover
above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

A significant winter storm is underway, bringing widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies to New England through Monday.
