For fifty years, the Harrison County Bicentennial Time Capsule has rested quietly under the Courthouse Square, preserving the stories, memories, businesses, and lives that shaped Harrison County in 1976.

Now, in honor of America250, we invite you to join us as history is uncovered once again.

The public is formally invited to attend the unearthing and opening of the Harrison County Bicentennial Time Capsule on:

🇺🇸 Saturday, July 4, 2026
⏰10:00 AM
📍Harrison County Courthouse
Cynthiana, Kentucky

Together, we will rediscover the stories of the past and reflect on the generations that helped shape our community over the last fifty years.

As we open this remarkable piece of local history, we also look ahead, beginning the next chapter of preservation for future generations of Harrison County.

Following the ceremony, the contents of the time capsule will be carefully catalogued and preserved before being placed on temporary public display at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The contents will later become part of the collection of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum.

We hope you will join us for this special and historic moment as we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary and honor the legacy of those who came before us.

What do you hope was left behind in 1976? 👀

Additional details on the burial of the America250 Semiquincentennial Time Capsule to come!

For generations, Liberty Trees have stood as symbols of freedom, gathering, and the enduring spirit of America.

Join the City of Cynthiana and the Harrison County Fiscal Court as we dedicate our Liberty Tree in honor of America 250, a living tribute to our nation’s past and future.

As part of this statewide initiative, we will plant a Tulip Poplar, Kentucky’s official state tree, known for its strength, beauty, and deep roots throughout the Commonwealth.

🇺🇸🎨 Introducing Cynthiana’s Community America250 Mural Project 🎨🇺🇸

As part of America250, we’re creating something truly special together- a large-scale community mural made up of hundreds of individually painted tiles created by the people of Cynthiana and Harrison County. ❤️

This mural will become a lasting piece of public art representing the heart of our community, our creativity, and the people who make this place home.

Here’s how it works:
🧩 Participants will receive a mural tile kit with instructions, supplies, and helpful tips
🎨 You’ll paint your tile with the included paint
✨ Once complete, every tile will come together to create one giant collaborative mural

Our goal is to have as many parts of our community represented as possible:
👧 Kids
👵 Seniors
⛪ Churches
🏪 Local businesses
🎭 Artists & creatives
⚾ Sports teams & clubs
🤝 Nonprofits & community organizations

…and everyone in between!

Each tile becomes part of a much larger story- one painted by our community together.

We’ll be sharing more details soon regarding:
Kit cost
Timeline
Community painting opportunities

We cannot wait to see this project come to life piece by piece. 💛
