As part of our 70th Anniversary celebration, we’re sharing throwback photos from throughout our department’s history. While not every photo is from the exact year our agency was founded, we hope our community enjoys these glimpses into the past.

Today’s throwback highlights our Records Unit. Though often working behind the scenes, this team plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate and organized records, supporting investigations, and ensuring our operations run smoothly. Their dedication helps our department serve the community more effectively every day.

Over the weekend, nightshift Officers contacted an individual inside of a 2022 BMW 530i displaying fraudulent license plates near Walker Street and St. Ann Avenue. While speaking with the driver, Officers observed a loaded revolver under his seat and detained him without incident. Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s VIN had been switched, and it was reported stolen out of LAPD. The suspect, a convicted felon, was arrested for several fi****ms violations, possession of a stolen vehicle, and VIN tampering charges. The firearm was recovered, and the vehicle was returned to its owner after being reported stolen for over a year.

Missing person: Francisca Maldonado, 69 years old, female, height 4’11, weight 130 lbs, brown and grey curly hair, brown eyes.

Clothing: blue and white sweater over a pink shirt, gray pants, blue flip flops and a red walker

Maldonado was last seen near the 8500 block of Belmont Street in Cypress on 8/14/2026. She is known to frequent Jack in the Box located at 4901 Lincoln Avenue and at 7 Eleven located at 8462 Moody Street in the City of La Palma. Maldonado is need of her medication.

On April 14th, 2026, dayshift Officers responded to a 911 call of a carjacking that had just occurred near the intersection of Valley View Street and Katella Avenue. The victim reported being forcefully pulled out of his vehicle, and stated the suspect was last seen driving his vehicle eastbound on Katella. Within minutes, responding Officers located the suspect (driving the victim’s vehicle) on Beach Blvd & Ball Road. The suspect led Officers on a brief vehicle pursuit, turned into a dead-end construction site, and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended thanks to great coordination from our dayshift patrol team and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter “Duke”. The vehicle was later returned to the victim.

Yesterday, Detective Arredondo had the opportunity to present to the S.A.I.L.S. (Seniors Alert, Independent & Living Safely) group, leading an important discussion on fraud prevention and scam awareness.

Community education plays a vital role in preventing crime before it happens. By sharing tips on recognizing scams, protecting personal information, and reporting suspicious activity, Detective Arredondo helped empower attendees with the tools to stay safe and informed.

Clothing: white shirt, dark pants

Yoo was last seen walking eastbound on Lincoln Avenue from the 5700 block of Lincoln Avenue at approximately 1130 hours on 7/31/2026. He is known to frequent the city of La Palma.

Chief Lauderback is heading to the Motorhome Madness RV Demolition Derby at the OC Fair on Wednesday, August 5th and he’s representing the Cypress Police Department for an incredible cause.

While there may be plenty of dents, crashes, and friendly competition on the track, the real impact happens off of it. This event raises critical funds for Rady Children’s Health Orange County (formerly CHOC), supporting pediatric cancer care, mental health resources, autism programs, and other life-changing services for local children and their families.

Every hit in the arena helps make a difference for kids who need it most, and we’d love for our community to come cheer on Chief Lauderback.
