The path to River Road, in Fairhope, AL, on June 1, 2012, began before the 911 call that day. It began before anyone knew Brittney Wood was missing. With Brittneyโ€™s phone going silent near Grand Bay on May 31. With Donnieโ€™s phone moving away from Styx River. With calls to Brittney that continued after her phone stopped giving location. With an interview that never happened.

Roy McDaniel (79) of Madrid, AL was last seen on July 8, 2026 at Rural King in Dothan, AL. He had intentions of traveling from Dothan to New Jersey where he planned to visit family. While itโ€™s uncertain of how he planned to travel, we feel confident that he did not use his personal vehicle.

His family in New Jersey expected him to arrive but has not seen or spoken to him since the 8th.
While Mr. McDaniel is an elder, itโ€™s not believed that he was suffering from any health issues.

Family, Friends, and The Houston County Sheriffโ€™s Office ask for the community's assistance in locating him. If you have any information, please contact us at 334-677-4808.

This post is from the HCSO please help and support all efforts to locate Mr. McDaniel.

Earlier this year, we began building a master list of Alabamaโ€™s missing persons so no one would be overlooked and cases could be more easily compared with unidentified remains.

On July 15, while preparing for an unrelated project, I checked the two primary databases we use. ALEA listed 222 missing persons. NamUs listed 296. That was already a difference of 74 names.

At that point, I had not yet received the list Kylie had been compiling. After months of comparing NamUs, ALEA, and our own database, removing duplicates, and ensuring each person appeared only once, her list contained 342 names.

Over the weekend, Amber with Secrets True Crime Podcast and I reviewed it again. Her additional research uncovered more cases that also needed to be included.

Today, our working list stands at 356 Alabama missing persons.

That is 134 more than ALEA listed on July 15 and 60 more than NamUs.

And we are almost certain we still do not have everyone.

This is not about blaming an agency or deciding which database is โ€œright.โ€ It is about recognizing that no single source currently gives us the full picture.

A search can only be as complete as the list behind it. When someone is absent from that list, they may also be left out of the inquiry, comparison, or review that could lead to answers.

356 is not the end of this project. It is proof of why the project matters.
