With the approach of the Labor Day weekend, the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s office reminds drivers to not drink and drive. Drivers intending to drink during a Labor Day festivity should plan ahead and secure a safe ride home before they start drinking, not after. Impairment clouds a person’s judgment and endangers everyone on the road.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, there were 505 traffic crash fatalities nationwide during the 2024 Labor Day holiday. Of these 505 fatalities, 170 (34%) involved a drunk driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or above. Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed in crashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08 or higher.

In support of the NHTSA Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, our deputies will increase patrols looking for impaired drivers and will also be setting up Sobriety checkpoints. Through these efforts, the goal is simple; promote safe roads, deter impaired driving, and help keep our community safe.

These saturation patrols and Sobriety Checkpoints can be expected at all times between September 3rd, 2026 and September 7th, 2026, with an emphasis placed on the locations listed below.

Today, the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office proudly celebrates the retirement of Deputy Greg Moore after 30 years of dedicated service in law enforcement.

For 25 years, Deputy Moore has answered the call to serve, protect, and make a difference in the lives of the people of Tallapoosa County. His commitment and dedication to the Sheriff’s Office have left a lasting impact on both his fellow employees and the citizens he served.

After 30 years of putting others first, today marks the beginning of a well-deserved new chapter. We are grateful for your years of service, and we wish you and your family nothing but happiness, good health, and many great adventures in retirement.
