As we celebrate our nation’s freedom with family, friends, fireworks, and time on the water, let’s make safety a priority.

🎆 Firework Safety
• Always have a bucket of water, water hose, or fire extinguisher nearby.
• Only use fireworks in a clear, open area away from homes, vehicles, and dry grass.
• Never allow children to handle or light fireworks without adult supervision.
• Never relight a firework that doesn’t ignite.
• Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them away.

🚤 Boating Safety
• Wear an appropriate life jacket at all times.
• Never operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Check your boat and safety equipment before leaving the dock.
• Operate at a safe speed and be aware of your surroundings.
• Let someone know your float plan and expected return time.

🚒 If an emergency happens, call 911 immediately.

🚨 Training Exercise Notice 🚨

Heads up, there will be a multi-agency training exercise happening today in the New Waters Farm area of Lake Martin.

If you’re out on a boat, please do your best to avoid the area and give crews plenty of space to work safely. We appreciate your cooperation!

On Election Day, we are asking everyone to please do not park in front of the apparatus bay doors. These areas must stay clear at all times so our trucks can safely and quickly respond when the tones drop. Even a vehicle parked there for a short time can delay emergency response. We also ask that space beside the building be left open for our volunteers. If a 911 call comes in, our members respond to the station in their personal vehicles before getting on the apparatus. Having that space available allows them to park quickly and get the trucks out the door without delay.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding.

The latest Alabama Drought Monitor, dated April 21st, continues to show severe drought conditions across much of our area. While rain is in the forecast, expected amounts will do very little to improve current drought conditions. Because of this, we continue to ask everyone to please refrain from any outdoor burning, even after the rain until we receive a significant amount of rainfall. Conditions remain favorable for fire spread, and even small burns can quickly get out of control.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

State wide fire alert remains in effect for the state with HIGH/VERY HIGH Fire danger today. Remember any outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice.

📢STATEWIDE FIRE ALERT REMAINS IN EFFECT📢

Statewide Fire Danger is HIGH today!
The Northern half of the state is classified as a High Fire Danger, while the Southern half has increased to a Very High Fire Danger classification.

We continue to urge everyone to avoid outdoor burning as we remain in drought conditions.

For clarity - this is not a ban on outdoor burning. This is a public notice to increase awareness of the drought conditions. As always, if you are burning over a .25 of an acre, you must obtain a burn permit from AFC's dispatch center.

Extrication Training

On Monday, 04/13/2026, Paces Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue conducted extrication training with Camp Hill Volunteer Fire Department. While our departments may not run many calls together, training side by side gives us the opportunity to share knowledge, sharpen our skills, and strengthen our ability to work onscene. Gaining access to a patient is only one part of an extrication. Just as important is working alongside EMS to ensure the patient is properly stabilized and removed safely without causing further injury. We’d like to thank Tallapoosa EMS for their support and for taking the time to help our members better understand patient stabilization and coordinated patient care during extrication scenarios. When the tones drop, training is what makes the difference.

Please refrain from any outdoor burning until further notice!!

📢With worsening drought conditions across the state and low relative humidity, State Forester Rick Oates has issued a statewide Fire Alert effective immediately.

Over the past weekend, 50 wildfires burned more than 2,300 acres of forestland across the state. This includes a 500-acre wildfire in Mobile County, one for 412 acres in Coosa County, one for 382 acres in Choctaw County, one for 260 acres in Washington County, and another one for 105 acres in Escambia County.

In the last 30 days, 387 wildfires have burned approximately 15,850 acres of forestland across the state.

“With no measurable rain in sight, the continued extremely dry conditions create dangerous wildfire behavior,” said Oates. “These conditions create the potential for fires to escape easily and spread rapidly, taking longer and more of the agency’s firefighting resources to contain. Fast-moving wildfires not only destroy property and forests but also threaten the lives of citizens and endanger firefighters.”

This Fire Alert will remain in effect until rescinded by the State Forester, at least through Monday, April 20. Conditions will be reevaluated at that time. Permits for outdoor burning will be restricted only to Certified Prescribed Burn Managers. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.

The Alabama Forestry Commission is the state agency committed to protecting Alabama’s invaluable forest assets and its citizens. To report a wildfire, call (800) 392-5679. 🚨 APPARATUS UPDATE 🚨

Paces Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue is proud to announce the addition of a new resource to our fleet “Dozer 14.”

Over the past several years, our area has seen an increase in brush and wildland fire activity, especially during extended dry conditions. After careful planning and coordination, this unit has been added to improve our ability to quickly establish fire breaks, assist with containment, and support neighboring departments during large-scale incidents. Dozer 14 will be operated by trained personnel and will serve as a valuable asset in protecting lives, property, and the natural resources throughout our district and surrounding areas. We would like to thank our community and partnering agencies for their continued support as we work to strengthen our capabilities and better serve Tallapoosa County and the Lake Martin area.

If you have made it this far in the post and haven’t figured it out yet, yes this is an April Fools joke 😂. While we’re always looking for ways to improve our response capabilities, Dozer 14 isn’t officially joining the fleet. Stay safe, and please continue to use caution with outdoor burning during these dry conditions. 🔥
