On D-Day, in the early hours of June 6th, 1944, Canadian soldiers approached their objective by landing craft. Despite being cold, wet, and seasick, they remained confident and determined as they began their assault on Juno Beach, marking the start of Operation Overlord and the Battle of Normandy.

The eventual victory would mark a critical turning point during the Second World War, but it came at a heavy cost. By the end of the Battle of Normandy Canada suffered 18,444 casualties, of whom 5,021 would never return home.

We will never forget their bravery and their heroism. It remains an inspiration to every soldier who wears the uniform today. We will remember them.

This realistic training reflects Canadian Army modernization and ensures Reservists are prepared to contribute to Canada’s sovereignty and to support our NATO allies.

“This capability marks a major step forward in modernizing the Canadian Army. High Mobility Artillery Rocket System will give the Army a mobile, long-range precision strike capability that can be deployed across Canada, including the Arctic, and abroad using existing Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft. When integrated with other modern capabilities—such as self-propelled artillery systems, sensors, and command and control—it will strengthen Canada’s ability to deter aggression, safeguard our sovereignty, and protect Canadians.” - Lieutenant-General Michael C. Wright, Commander Canadian Army
