During an earthquake, follow these steps for safety:

1 Drop, Cover, and Hold On: Drop to your hands and knees, cover your head and neck with your arms, and seek shelter under a sturdy piece of furniture. Hold on until the shaking stops.

2 Stay Indoors: If you are inside, stay inside. Do not run outside during the shaking, as falling debris can be dangerous.

3 Stay Away from Windows: Keep away from glass, windows, mirrors, and heavy objects that could fall.

4 If Outdoors: Move to an open area away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires. Drop to the ground and cover your head.

5 If Driving: Pull over safely to the side of the road, stop, and remain in the vehicle with your seatbelt fastened until the shaking stops.

6 After the Shaking Stops: Check yourself and others for injuries. Be cautious of potential hazards such as gas leaks, fires, or structural damage. If you smell gas, turn off the gas supply and leave the building.

7 Follow Official Instructions: Listen to emergency services and follow their guidance for evacuation or other safety measures.

8 Be Prepared: Have an emergency kit with essentials ready, including water, food, medications, and a flashlight.

Stay calm and prioritize safety to minimize risks during and after an earthquake.

On Saturday evening at approximately 9:18 pm, Daggett Fire responded to a single report of a possible field on fire in Yermo. While enroute, a large column of smoke and flames were visible from Daggett. An immediate request was placed requesting Water Tender 392 from Newberry Springs Fire Department.

At approximately 9:26pm, Engine 402 from Barstow Federal Firefighters Association and Daggett Engine 371 arrived at scene. Engine 402 provided a report on conditions stating one residential structure fully involved with extension into the surrounding vegetation and making a hard run towards Eddie World Travel Center and numerous residential structures, requesting a second alarm.

Incident command was handed over to Chief Clemons from Daggett Fire. Two firefighters from E402 began an aggressive attack on the vegetation fire which was being pushed by approximately 20mph winds. E371 staff and a portion of the crew from E402 began working on the structure fire.

Requests were placed for additional water tenders due to a lack of hydrants. WT413 from Fort Irwin Fire and WT56 from San Bernardino County Fire responded to the incident and supported operations throughout the incident.

Upon arrival of the third engine, E392 from Newberry Springs, they were assigned as "Wildland" division and immediately began mitigating the forward rate of spread. After laying approximately 1200 feet of hose, the wildland threat was stopped. Units attached to the wildland division were E392, BP401, BP392, WT413, and Chief 8402.

Units from the wildland division were then reassigned to structure operations to assist E371, E402, and Yermo Fire Department E381. The incident terminated at approximately 1:15am with no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

A busy weekend for your Daggett firefighters.

Friday evening Daggett Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire with threats to Bureau of Land Management Fire and Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) - Barstow land. Daggett Fire made an aggressive attack and was able to stop the forward progress and hold the fire to one acre. Thank you to Newberry Springs Fire Department, Barstow Federal Firefighters Association, and Fort Irwin Fire for the mutual aid assist.

On Saturday all three volunteer agencies in the valley participated in the SFT Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Technician course. This course was led by Barstow Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2325 and assisted by National Training Center/Fort Irwin Firefighters.

On Sunday the course concluded and your Daggett Firefighters continued the day of training with a radio communication class led by Chief Wayne Clemons Jr. The weekend ended with Daggett Fire responding to an off-road ATV accident in Yermo where one patient was flown to a local trauma center with moderate injuries.
