09/01/2026: Boomtown crews responded to assist KGFR with a House Fire. Battalion 1 arrived with smoke and fire showing. Truck 28 arrived and opened up for Engine 1 while performing primary searches. RE28 established RIT before being reassigned to the basement. Battalion 28 assisted with Water Supply. BC1 held the Command.

08/29/2026

08/28/26: Just before 0430 hours, Truck 28 responded on the Second Alarm Building Fire at the Green Acres Nursing and Rehab in La Plata. Truck 28 arrived and assisted other companies with ventilation and manpower on scene. The Truck operated on scene for approximately 1.5 hours.

08/26/2026

08/26/2026: The Rescue Engine and PA289 assisted units from Charles County with a late night extrication on Rock Point Road. Units found a single vehicle into several power poles adjacent to a substation. SMECO was called to the scene to secure power before removing the patient. Crews from 28 stabilized the vehicle and assisted with extrication efforts. The patient was removed and handed off to ems crews on scene. Chief 1A held the Command.

We would like to give a shoutout to our Training Officer, Dale Anderson. Recently, Dale was awarded the 2026 All-Central Virginia Track Coach of the Year. Dale is a coach for the Blue Ridge Barons near Charlottesville, Va. A major accomplishment, Dale led his team to a 3rd consecutive VISAA Division II Outdoor Track State Championship.

Congratulations Coach Anderson, continue to make Boomtown proud!

We offer our heartfelt condolences to Mason’s family, friends and colleagues.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Firefighter Mason Fercovic-Ortegel, who tragically died in an off-duty drowning incident at Lake Anna. Mason was only 24 years old.

This is a heartbreaking loss for Mason’s family, friends, coworkers, and our entire FREM family. We ask that you keep his family and everyone who knew and loved Mason in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Our department will stand beside Mason’s family and our members in the days ahead. We will do everything we can to support them, care for one another, and honor Mason and his service to our community.

Please continue to lift up Mason’s family, friends, and fellow department members.

Rest easy, Mason. You will not be forgotten.

Truck, Medic and Chief responded on this house fire in Newburg, MD. First arriving units found fire throughout and worked for several hours to extinguish and perform overhaul.

Our crews were honored to es**rt Firefighter Chris Dodd off from his last shift, as he begins his new chapter in retirement. We wish him safe journeys and look forward to seeing him around town.

Just before shift change, Dahlgren units responded to Colonial Beach for the garage fire. Units assisted Co.1 with a small fire with extension to the roof area. Crews overhauled and assisted with checking for extension before picking up. Chief 1 held the Command.

A big thank you to the Town of Colonial Beach and the Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department for inviting us to Grand Marshal the “Nation’s Loudest” Fireman’s Parade at their 75th Anniversary Potomac River Festival. Our personnel were well greeted by the patrons on hand. It is always nice to interact with the communities we serve.
