Founded in September of 2000, RCH has provided a safe have to over 825 children in need. In the heart of down town Dahlonega, Georgia right off Main Street, stands a quaint white house that was built in the late 1930s. On September 22, 2000, the 70 year old house became a place of hope and opportunity to children within the county who had experienced the worst life has to offer. With a dedicated b
oard of directors, and diligent staff Rainbow Children’s Home has seen a great deal of change. As need grew, in early 2002, the board decided to serve children from any where in the state of Georgia with the belief that all children in need should be served regardless of geographical location. In 2007 state regulations changed and RCH was no longer able to house both boys and girls. Moving forward it was decided that narrowing the focus to teenage girls would allow us to provide more comprehensive care to each child placed in our home. Since then our proud house has seen more cases of sexual abuse, eating disorders, and self-harm. More children well on their way to becoming young women that are fighting to overcome the life that has been unfairly thrust upon them. If walls could talk ours would have many stories to tell. Not just those of the 700 children who have found refuge here, but also those of the staff and volunteers who have been compassionate supports to child after child and worked diligently to provide for every need. As these girls fight the uphill battles of finding self-worth, self-respect, academic success, and a plan for the future the staff of Rainbow Children’s Home works around the clock to meet both physical and emotional needs. While we know we cannot fight these battles for them, we do know we can support them every step of the way. Our staff and volunteers are always ready to celebrate successes, and help find solutions to overcome failures. We are proud to say that we go beyond the minimum state requirements to ensure that each young lady placed with us receives the best care possible. Rainbow Children’s Home is a place where girls who have seen the worst of humanity can come to find Hope, Security, and Opportunity.
