Day in the Life of a Gold Miner 2026 was so much fun! Assistant Manager Matt got demoted into a ne'er-do-well, failed miner and crummy gambler.. not everyone got lucky during the gold rush!!! He played chuck-a-luck with guests, between his friends knocking some sense into him!!

The hard working historians and demonstrators had to put up with his antics. Interesting laundry demonstrations by Libba from the Athens Welcome Center (even miners want clean clothes), Greg from the Lumpkin County Historical Society had great details and artifacts from the time period, and Dathan from Consolidated Gold Mine tried to outdo Matt's beard (his is better.)

Thank you to everyone who attended!! See you next year β›οΈπŸ’°πŸͺ™

The squirrels were feisty this week! Gray squirrels have two breeding periods during the year, late winter and later summer. Broods are usually 2-3 children, they are born blind and helpless and reared by the mother.

Squirrels on the Square!

While we are a small historic site set in the middle of downtown Dahlonega, we do see a fair amount of wildlife on the property. Particularly.... SQUIRRELS!

This morning we spotted an Eastern Gray Squirrel (lets call him Mr. Munchkin Man). These are the most common native squirrels in Georgia!

Look forward to more squirrels facts and pictures!!

Some pictures of the beautiful historic courthouse built in 1836 that now houses our museum.

A stunning dogwood tree in bloom!
