๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿšจ DON'T MAKE IT EASY FOR THIEVES! ๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿšจ

Did you know the vast majority of car burglaries are crimes of opportunity? Thieves are checking door handles in residential driveways and apartment complexes right now. Protect your vehicle and your family by adopting these quick habits:

๐Ÿ”’ LOCK & TAKE

Always lock your doors.
Roll up your windows completely.
Take your keys or fobs with you every time.

๐Ÿ“ฆ HIDE & REMOVE VALUABLES

Fi****ms: NEVER leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle. Guns are the #1 target for thieves in Texas and are often used in violent crimes.
Bags & Cash: Keep purses, backpacks, shopping bags, and loose cash out of sight.
Empty Bags: Remove them entirely! Even an empty bag can tempt a burglar to break your window.
Garage Doors & Documents: Do not leave garage door openers or important documents (like your title or registration) in the car.

๐Ÿก SECURE YOUR PROPERTY
Park in well-lit areas.
Consider installing motion-sensor lights or surveillance cameras.
Adopt the 9 PM Routine: Form a nightly habit of checking your vehicles, removing all items, and locking up your home.

โš ๏ธ WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE TARGETED:
If your car has been burglarized, do not touch anything to preserve potential evidence, and call the police immediately.

National Police Week 2026 is observed from Sunday, May 10, to Saturday, May 16, 2026. This week-long observance honors the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement officers, with National Peace Officers Memorial Day taking place on Friday, May 15, 2026.
It's a meaningful time to show that appreciation. National Police Week provides a great opportunity to acknowledge the risks these officers take and the vital role they play in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
So, this week if you see any of our community police stop and thank them for their service. Itโ€™s an honor to hear this from our community.

Students from the Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District (DLSISD) FFA recently collaborated with local law enforcement to construct specialized door-breaching equipment. This tactical gear, which includes tools like battering rams, is designed to allow officers to quickly access suspects or reach victims during high-stakes emergency situations, such as hostage rescues or active shooter incidents.
The project holds a deep personal and multi-generational connection: The equipment was built in the same agricultural building I attended as a student in the early 1990s under the mentorship of Ag teacher Mark Scheu. The students were led in this project by Markโ€™s son, Bryan Scheu, who now serves as one of the Ag teachers at DLSISD.
We expressed sincere appreciation for the FFA students' prompt response and the high-quality craftsmanship they demonstrated in producing these critical tools for the department.
