Look at our school continuing to shine! Congratulations to our amazing Student Council and Ms. Santos for her leadership!

LOCKHART, TX — Lockhart ISD is proud to announce that three elementary campuses have been selected as recipients of the 2025–2026 TEPSA Student Leadership Award, presented by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary, Borchert Loop Elementary, and Plum Creek Elementary were recognized for their outstanding student leadership programs and the positive impact their students continue to make within their campus communities through leadership, service, collaboration, and school pride.

The TEPSA Student Leadership Award honors PK–8 student leadership teams across Texas that demonstrate exceptional dedication to serving others, building campus culture, and inspiring positive change through meaningful student-led initiatives.

At Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary, student leadership is guided by dedicated sponsor Alma Santos. Her work continues to empower students to lead with kindness, service, and a strong commitment to their campus community.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and the example they set every day,” said ABS Principal Cristina Vazquez. “Their leadership, compassion, and willingness to serve others continue to make a lasting impact on our campus culture.”

At Borchert Loop Elementary and Plum Creek Elementary, student leadership efforts are supported under the direction of Executive Principal Jamee Griebel, whose campuses continue to prioritize student voice, leadership, service, and collaboration. Student leadership at Borchert Loop Elementary is guided by sponsor Lindsey Aman, while Plum Creek Elementary’s leadership program is led by sponsors Garrett Kurtis, Claire Cutright, and Monica Contreras.

“This recognition is a reflection of the incredible students we have at both campuses and the staff members who pour into them each day,” said Executive Principal Jamee Griebel. “Watching students step into leadership roles, serve others, and build positive school communities is truly something special.”

“Student leadership plays an essential role in developing confident, compassionate, and engaged learners,” said Lockhart ISD Superintendent Dr. Mark Estrada. “When students are given opportunities to lead and serve others, they develop skills that will impact them far beyond the classroom. We are extremely proud of the students, sponsors, and campus leaders at ABS, BLE, and PCE for representing Lockhart ISD with excellence and heart.”

According to TEPSA, award-winning student leadership teams across Texas participated in a wide variety of impactful initiatives, including literacy programs, kindness campaigns, mentoring opportunities, community service projects, and activities designed to strengthen school culture and engagement.

The achievements of these outstanding student leaders will be celebrated during TEPSA’s Student Leadership Workshops this fall.
Lockhart ISD congratulates the students, sponsors, and campus leaders at Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary, Borchert Loop Elementary, and Plum Creek Elementary for this incredible accomplishment and for continuing to model what it means to lead with service, integrity, pride, and a commitment to being Locked on Excellence.

Serving Texas PK–8 school leaders since 1917, TEPSA has more than 6,000 members who direct the activities of more than 3 million PK–8 students. TEPSA has trained more than 40,000 Texas students through its Student Leadership Workshops since 1999. During the 2025 Texas workshops, 2,311 students and 500 adults gained leadership tools and skills to develop community engaging projects for their schools. Learn more at TEPSA.
