BOARD TABLES FY26-27 BUDGET AGENDA ITEM - The Board of Supervisors did not approve the FY 2026-2027 budget during Tuesday night’s meeting. Instead, the Board voted to postpone the budget agenda item until after a June 11 meeting with the County Auditor.

That meeting will include several Board members, School Superintendent, two School Board members, and finance staff from both the County and School System. The goal is to further review and better understand the School System's financial reports and budget information.

The Board of Supervisors will still need to formally approve the budget at a future Board meeting in June.

FY26-27 BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS

• The proposed $159 million budget reflects an anticipated 8% increase in revenues and expenditures from the prior year.
• This budget figure includes both operating and capital costs for the County, as well as $35,180,602 in
direct contribution funding to Botetourt County Public Schools.
• The total recommended school budget is $88.5 million and represents a 10% increase from the FY26 budget.

An unexpected visitor made quite a splash in Botetourt County this weekend.

An injured pelican (definitely a long way from home) was found in a local pond and safely rescued thanks to the quick action and teamwork of the volunteers at Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department - Company 4. After being carefully recovered, the bird was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation facility where it can get the care it needs to recover.

Not your everyday call for service, but a great example of local volunteers stepping up whenever help is needed.

Wishing this unexpected traveler a full recovery and a safe journey back to the wild.
