The Dallam County Sheriff’s Office serves the farthest northwestern county in the Texas Panhandle, Dallam County borders New Mexico and Oklahoma. The Dallam County Sheriff’s Office is a rural agency and is staffed for 4 Patrol Deputies, one Chief Deputy and the elected Sheriff.
STARTING PAY: $50,000/year; after first year: $55,000/year (base pay on 170 hours a month) – may be less than a year based on experience and the Sheriff’s waiver.
REQUIREMENTS
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Be a citizen of the United States
• Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Possess a valid state driver’s license
• Possess Peace Officer TCOLE license
• Ability to work various shifts, weekends and holidays
• Ability to walk, run, climb or crawl in the pursuit of suspects; to work outdoors in inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
• Candidates will be expected to participate in and pass a medical examination including drug testing.
• All sworn personnel shall complete a 6-month new-hire probationary period. The probationary period can be expediated at the Sheriff’s request, usually dependent on job performance and experience
• Live within Dallam County or a short distance from Dallam County

RETIREMENT:
• Dallam County is a member of Texas County & District Retirement System (TCDRS).
• 7% of your gross wages per pay period are contributed and matched 2.5 to 1 by the County
• Vesting requirement is 8 years of continued service.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Perform a wide variety of professional rural law enforcement work;
• Secure information from witnesses and suspects;
• Carefully observe incidents and situations, accurately remembering names, faces, numbers, circumstances and places;
• Evaluate and analyze crime scenes including the collection of evidence
• Must show proficiency with provided weapons
• Make independent judgments and adopt quick, effective, and responsible courses of action at any time;
• Prepare clear and comprehensive reports;
• Effectively represent the Sheriff’s Office in contacts with the public and other law enforcement agencies;
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work;
• Possess and maintain a cooperative and positive attitude;
• Required to occasionally work overtime – may include weekends and evenings;
• Required to take call-out responsibility;
• Required to dress in professional attire at work daily;
• Required to possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Must be able to perform defense tactics against individuals. Requires one or more of the following: prolonged sitting, standing, walking, running, ascending and descending of both interior and exterior stairs. Must be able to work varied days and shift schedules, to include weekends and holidays. Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
