ATTENTION. IMPORTANT

Be advised there have been multiple reports of an individual contacting local residents claiming to be a Sgt Todd with the Dallam County Sheriffs Office. I do not have a Sgt Todd in my agency. The person is claiming to be contacting in reference to a warrant for failing to appear for a court date or possibly for failing to appear for jury duty. He then will advise you to pay by odd means like gift cards (ETC).Be advised you will never be contacted by phone for a warrant and you will never be asked to pay by unconventional means. If you receive a call immediately hang up. Do not give any information or send any payment.

!!!!!!!!SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!!

Today I received a call from a citizen that was on a phone call with a subject with a very thick southern accent claiming to be a Detective with my office and gave a false badge number. He tried to get money from the citizen by claiming he had a warrant for missing federal jury duty and that he’d have to pay at a kiosk of some type.

Be aware that I have no employees with the title of detective!!

The citizen contacted me and drove to my location while still on the phone with the scammer. I was able to speak to him and identified myself to him. He immediately got angry and started calling me names and threatening me before ending the call.

We will never call and demand payment in any form for the removal of a warrant.

Be aware and do not give them any information or any form of money.

Shane Stevenson
