The Brenton Arboretum

The Brenton Arboretum Quiet Enjoyment, Education, Conservation, Demonstration The 140-acre Arboretum is set into natural Iowa prairie. (Elms), and Maclura pomifera (Osage orange).

Collections are grouped by species such that trees within a genus or species may be compared. Prominant collections include Gymnocladus dioicus (Kentucky coffeetree), Ulmus spp.

Join Brenton Arboretum Executive Director, Melissa Burdick, for an interesting and entertaining look at one of Iowa’s most under-appreciated trees: the Osage orange. We’ll explore the tree’s ancient history, cultural importance, and amazing attributes.

This is a free lecture. Registration is not required, but encouraged.

Join artist Libby Morecraft for a fun outdoor painting experience. Libby will walk take you step by step to create a one of a kind canvas masterpiece for you to take home, all while enjoying the arboretum views and enjoying a snack break with a delicious piece of pie. This event will take place out the open air Pavilion.

Each ticket allows you to create one canvas, best suited for 16 and older. No experience necessary and all supplies will be provided.
