Community Reminders – September 4, 2026
MOUND PARK ROLLER-SKATE – The Roller-skating theme for Friday, September 4th is Sports!!! Wear your favorite teams colors or jersey. Skating is from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. It’s free and the Skate Shack is stocked with all sizes of skates from toddlers to adults, quad skate and in-line skates. Participate in the theme night and receive a treat!
Tomorrow is the first Saturday of the month, so Storm Siren Testing will take place at 12:00 pm Noon tomorrow, September 4, 2026.

ALL CITY OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2026 IN OBSERVANCE OF THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY.

STOP MEANS STOP. With school now being in session full time, there is a stop sign at the crosswalk on 13th street in front of the Dallas Center Elementary Schools from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. Please be aware of this stop sign and stop when it is displayed.

YARD WASTE pick-up is every Monday (Monday Holidays are delayed one day) from April through November. Grass, leaves, twigs, etc. can be placed in brown paper bags, paper grocery bags, cardboard boxes, or trash cans. Do not use your Waste Management container or black plastic bags. Bundle sticks and branches in no more than four-foot lengths and less than 40 lbs.

The Annual Survey is now ready for residents to complete. The Committee would like to learn more about how the residents use the parks and what enhancements you would like to see. They will use the information provided in this survey to set their actions for the next year. The information will be included in a report shared with the City Council and the public. IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Water System Update: Well Repair & Conservation Notice

Crews were on site early this morning to pull the pump at Well 10. Upon inspection, crews discovered that the wear and deterioration is more extensive than initially anticipated and extends to the well walls. Both the pump and the well casing require thorough cleaning and rehabilitation.

Because of the scope of this work, this process will take several days rather than a few hours before we can return to 100% municipal service.

Current System Status:
1. Water Supply & Pressure: The connection to Xenia Rural Water is stable and performing well. We expect to remain on the Xenia connection for the next few days while Well 10 work is completed.
2. Water Quality: As a reminder, the water remains safe to use and consume.

Voluntary Conservation Request: We ask that all residents please continue your voluntary water conservation efforts. Reducing community demand relieves strain on our other three operating wells, supports the treatment plant, and helps maintain healthy reserve levels.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support as our crews resolve this. We will share additional updates as new details become available.

Water System Update

Public Works crews have been working hard all day to address our current well issue. To maintain uninterrupted water service and steady pressure throughout town, we are temporarily pulling water directly from Xenia Rural Water into the water tower.

Here is what you need to know:
• Water Quality: The water is 100% safe to drink and use.
• Taste & Smell: Because Xenia's treatment process differs from ours, you may notice a slight difference in the taste or odor of your tap water.
• Timeline: Once our well repairs are complete and the municipal system fully recovers, this temporary supply will clear from the lines over the course of a few days.

Please continue your water conservation efforts while crews finish the necessary repairs. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to get the system fully back to normal!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS PLEASE READ:

💧 COMMUNITY WATER UPDATE & REQUEST FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE 💧

Earlier this week, one of our city’s four municipal wells went offline due to a pump failure. Our crews quickly diagnosed the issue, and repairs are actively underway to get the well back online as soon as possible.

In the meantime, our remaining three wells are meeting baseline daily needs, but the system is running with little margin to spare. For the next few days, we are asking all residents and businesses to voluntarily pause non-essential, high-volume water use. Doing so will ease strain on the system and allow our storage reserves to rebuild once repairs are complete.

How you can make an immediate difference:
• Turn off automated lawn sprinkler and irrigation systems.
• Hold off on topping off or filling swimming pools.
• Delay power washing driveways, patios, or vehicles.
• Take a quick moment to check your home for running toilets or dripping outdoor spigots.

Normal household activities do not need to change. Please continue cooking, drinking, bathing, and running routine loads of dishes and laundry as needed. Our goal is strictly to reduce heavy discretionary usage so the municipal supply can catch up.
Our Public Works team has been working around the clock to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. If you cross paths with a PW crew member over the next couple of days, please give them a quick wave or word of thanks for their hard work.

Our primary focus is hands-on repairs, so consider "no news to be good news" while work progresses. We will post a full update once the pump is fully operational and the system returns to standard capacity.

A quick note from Public Works: Our crews are actively tracking down a water leak in our system, and we could use the community's help to pinpoint the exact location.

There is no disruption to water safety, but we are asking all residents—especially those in the southwest part of town—to keep an eye out for a few telltale signs.

Priority Focus Area:
• South of Walnut, West of 15th (though reports from anywhere in town are helpful!)
What to look for:
• Sump pump running non-stop
• Unexplained water or dampness in your basement
• Lower water pressure than normal
• Unusual soggy patches or pooling water in yards, alleys, or streets

🎉 A New Chapter for Heritage Park! 🎉
This past weekend, the City of Dallas Center celebrated the official dedication of the Heritage Park Amphitheater with a ribbon cutting ceremony during the 2026 Fall Festival!
The completion of this beautiful new space marks an exciting milestone for our community. The Heritage Park Amphitheater will provide a welcoming place for gatherings, performances, celebrations, and shared memories for generations to come. ❤️

DALLAS CENTER FALL FESTIVAL is this weekend. The theme this year is "Red, White & Retro.” Feel free to jump in and help wherever and whenever needed.

Please be safe and don’t drive around barricades. Barricades are there for a reason and no one should be driving around them.

MOUND PARK ROLLER-SKATE – The Roller-skating theme for Friday, August 28th is Red, White and Retro. Start the Fall Festival weekend off right by joining the fun at the Skating Rink. We hear there is going to be some water balloon fun that you are not going to want to miss. Skating is from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. It’s free and the Skate Shack is stocked with all sizes of skates from toddlers to adults, quad skate and in-line skates. Participate in the theme night and receive a treat!

Reminder to watch out for the kiddos walking and biking to and from school now that the school year is in full swing.

FARMER’S MARKET – the Farmer’s Market has ended. Thanks to Rachel Kelly for organizing the Farmer’s Market again this year…….even after having a baby. We truly appreciate you Rachel and everyone who frequented the Farmer’s Market this year. We look forward to seeing you next year.

We are aware of the water discoloration and want to assure residents that the water remains safe to drink.

The discoloration is being caused by increased water usage from the carnival, which has stirred up sediment in the water pipes. This can temporarily cause the water to appear discolored.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as the water system returns to normal.

MOUND PARK ROLLER-SKATE – The Roller-skating theme for Friday, August 14th is Fair Spirit – Celebrating the Iowa State Fair. Get ready for a blue-ribbon night of fun as we celebrate the Iowa State Fair. Skating is from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. It’s free and the Skate Shack is stocked with all sizes of skates from toddlers to adults, quad skate and in-line skates. Participate in the theme night and receive a treat! The DALLAS CENTER POOL has closed for the season. We’ll see you in 2027. Thank you for your patronage this summer.

FARMER’S MARKET – the last Farmer’s Market will be Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Be sure to get there one of these last weeks to check it out. The Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 pm at Heritage Park.
