Dallas County Sheriff's Office-Vehicle Crimes Unit Created for the public and public assistance. We also use forensic mapping equipment that aids in mapping the physical evidence found at the crash scene.

The Dallas Sheriff's Office Vehicle Crimes Unit (VCU) is a specialized unit within the Freeway Management Division of the Sheriff Department. We use mathematical analysis obtained from crash scene data to assist in determining the circumstances and causes surrounding a crash. There are 4 detectives assigned to VCU. VCU works fatalities, crashes involving serious bodily injuries, crashes involving county owned vehicles and hit and run crashes. We are responsible for preparing and filing cases with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office for but not limited to; Accident Involving Damage to Vehicle, Accident Involving Injury/death (Failure to Stop and Render Aid), DWI, Intoxication Assault, Intoxication Manslaughter, Murder, Manslaughter, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Evading Arrest/Detention w/ Motor Vehicle.
