🍁 It finally looks like fall in Allen, TX! Where do you like to see the fall foliage around town?
📸:
Official account of the City of Allen. We're not a small town anymore with over 100K residents, but we aren't overgrown either.
From humble beginnings around a water station dam along the Houston and Texas Central Railroad line, Allen has developed into a dynamic and diverse community. We've stayed connected to our roots, prepared for the future and built a city that is downright delightful. And it shows – MONEY's "Best Places to Live 2017" has Allen tops in Texas and #2 in the nation. Family Circle, D Magazine, WalletHub,
SafeWise, and Forbes have all given Allen praise and high rankings for livability, safety and economics. We created this page to share our continuing story with you. Together we make Allen more than just a place to live - we make it our home. Social Media Policy: CityofAllen.org/SocialPolicy

Heads up, Allen drivers! Beginning Monday, Dec. 4, crews will begin removing a section of red tip photinia plants on Bethany Drive, just east of Joe Farmer Recreation Center. The plants are diseased and overgrown, and could become hazardous for people using the adjoining sidewalk. One lane will be blocked while the plants are removed. Please slow down and watch for workers during this time. (And yes: new landscaping is planned for this stretch, but will wait for warmer temperatures!)
We've got a festive mystery on our hands this holiday season! Can you help us identify this feathered friend who landed on City Hall's Christmas tree?

"On that day let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting and enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain." - President Dwight D. Do you know how much water you're using each month? Now that most Allen homes have received a new smart water meter from the City of Allen, we want to provide you with the best tools to manage your water use and bill. The City of Allen has partnered with WaterSmart to offer residents a website with detailed information about their household water use. These meters give you greater insight and control over your monthly water bills by providing detailed, hourly data on the water you use. Many Allen residents have lowered their monthly bill after discovering wasted water from a broken sprinkler head, leaky toilet, or sprinkler system with incorrect programming. Want to try it out? Visit AllenTX.WaterSmart.com and enter your utility billing account number (found in the upper right corner of your bill) and zip code to view water use on your secure customer dashboard.
Are you already using your smart water meter dashboard? We'd love to hear if you've identified a leak, changed your watering patterns, or encountered other helpful features!

Are you planning your Thanksgiving holiday meals for next week? Make sure you have a plan on how to properly dispose of your fats, oils, greases, and other solids (FOGS)! If you put FOGS down the drain, they will harden and cling to the walls in your household pipes or city sewer lines. Once hardened, this reduces water flow and could cause a sewage backup into your home or neighborhood. FOG comes from meats, butter, food scraps, sauces and gravy, dairy products, and cooking oil. https://bit.ly/3svUqwA

After touring Downtown Allen during the public input process this summer for the 2023 bond, a citizen-led subcommittee identified land acquisition and development of bike/pedestrian paths as the top priorities for bond funding. For the 2023 Bond Election on November 7, the ballot includes five City of Allen bond propositions, including Proposition D for Downtown revitalization, which you will find at the very end of your ballot. To learn more about Proposition D, go here: https://bit.ly/3s0ePcX. Allen’s Downtown Steering Committee, led by resident volunteers, was formed in June 2021 to develop a vision to revitalize downtown. The group completed its work in July 2022 and presented a vision and work plan to City Council. The Downtown Allen Revitalization Plan is the result of nearly a year of community input through workshops, events, surveys and meetings. It provides a vision, goals and an implementation plan to revitalize Allen’s downtown and turn it into the vibrant heart of the city. Read the Downtown Allen Revitalization Plan here: https://bit.ly/46WOxrd Because Allen is still growing and adding new properties to the tax roll, no tax rate increase is expected to be needed to repay the debt, even if voters approve all propositions. Watch as Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey provides a virtual tour of our current police headquarters. This video points out some of the challenges of the existing facility and explains how a new one would help meet current and future needs. For the 2023 Bond Election on November 7, the ballot includes five City of Allen bond propositions, including Proposition E for new police facilities, which you will find at the very end of your ballot. The proposed facility addresses current needs and future growth for the police force accommodates dispatch operations (now housed in the basement of City Hall) and provides space for community outreach programs. Because Allen is still growing and adding new properties to the tax roll, no tax rate increase is expected to be needed to repay the debt, even if voters approve all propositions. Computer hard drives can hold a lot of sensitive information. One way the City of Allen ensures our data stays secure is to properly dispose of old drives at the end of their life. Shredding old disc drives ensures that data doesn’t fall into the wrong hands and allows parts to be properly recycled. Data is either transferred to newer drives or determined to be eligible for destruction based on the City’s record retention policy. Before you sell, donate or recycle your own electronics, make sure to delete all personal data from the hard drive or complete a “hard reset” to clear all previous data and settings. Allen utility customers can drop off electronics for recycling during Allen Recycles Day on Saturday, Nov. 4. https://bit.ly/3FthrD9 #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth
