This page is for anyone. For those who want to be part of the community that is forming near Dallas, Texas, you can ask to be part of the closed discussion group at www.facebook.com/groups/newkuru Don't ask to become part of that group unless you have read the website and are serious about starting an Ecovillage here. To be part of that project you must be vegetarian (or vegan) and not be taking intoxication, such as alcohol or drugs. The community development group is meeting every Sunday at 10:00 AM at Kalachandji's.

From my own status update> If any of you don't like the corrupt political and business system, the exploitation, the Monsantos of the world, natural gas fracking, slaughterhouses, destruction of lives, countries, peoples, the environment, and the planet in general, you should consider joining us on Sundays. If you live in Dallas and are genuinely interested in real solutions, you are missing out. Even if you're only looking for a safe haven when things crash, what's your plan? Well, we've got one. You need to get on board now because we are moving forward.

I just posted the event for our Sunday meeting, at 10:00 AM in the Activity Room at Kalachandji's. It will not be potluck, we'll be done in time for separate lunch plans. Bring snacks if you like, water and juice is provided. Better yet, come at 9:30 for the short documentary we'll be showing, with some time to discuss before the main meeting at 10:00.

We would like to start meeting at 10:00 instead of 11:00 on Sundays. That way lunch is not a requirement every time, we can have share a potluck lunch after the meeting, or everyone can make separate plans.

There was a small army of people cutting veggies for the feast today in the Activity Room. So we moved to the Peacock Room, thanks to Jack. Five of us met and discussed things and read a few more quotes, then we jumped into the kirtan for the festival.

This Sunday is Lord Nityananda's Appearance Day. The temple schedule says abhiseka and arati at 12:00 noon, and feast at 1:00 PM.

I finally finished uploading the videos of the first meeting and am starting on the second one. It takes over 50 hours even with DSL! If anyone has a fast connection let me know and maybe I can bring over a thumb drive.

For now, I thought about "Harmoni Farms" because "Harmony Farms" is pretty common. We'll be choosing a name at some point down the road.

We had our first meeting! Lots of great people, a nice mix. I had a little bit too much information to present and rushed through some of it. Now I have a much better idea how to do things going forward. I'll be contacting people to like this page so we can stay in touch - especially because the next meeting will be pot-luck and we need to coordinate a little bit.

Anyone who is interested in starting a rural community should read the book "Creating a Life Together - Practical Tools to Grow Ecovillages and Intentional Communities." For those interested only in finding an existing community to join, read "Finding Community - How to Join an Ecovillage or Intentional Community".

Earthships 101 part I

This is informative, but I do not recommend "earthships" because the tires used will continue to give off gases for many years. Concrete is also used, which is not necessary except for structural load-bearing purposes. The fuel and transportation system required to ship tires thousands of miles also defeat the purpose. Why would anyone ship used tires up to a home at 12,000 foot in the mountains of South America?

For those who may not know, Hamsadutta and Savitri have 7 acres of open land east of Terrell, along with her brother and mother. They have a large veggie garden, which like many others suffered in the summer heat and drought especially due to grasshoppers eating everything. They want to build using natural methods, and the first one will be a storage/workshop built with compressed earth block.

Diana Leafe Christian, Author of Creating a Life Together and Finding Community

I'm reading a book called "Creating a Life Together - Practical Tools to Grow Ecovillages and Intentional Communities." It's one of the most practical books I've ever read. Anyone desiring to be part of a community should read this book - including communities around urban temples. There are many tools for community building - meaning people - that we all need.

Hamsadutta and Savitri are back from their trip. We are finalizing plans to build a small building on their property using stabilized compressed earth blocks. It will be in two phases: 1) making the blocks, and letting them cure for a month, and 2) constructing the building. The construction will be conducted as a hands-on workshop, and it will be both educational and fun. Stay tuned for dates!
