Providing basic needs when hard times hit, care and aid for those living on the fringes of society is at the heart of The Salvation Army. Soon after beginning his ministerial career in England in 1852, William Booth abandoned the concept of the traditional church pulpit in favor of taking the gospel of Jesus Christ directly to the people. Walking the streets of London, he preached to the poor, the

homeless, the hungry, and the destitute. When fellow clergymen disagreed with Booth’s unconventional approach, he and his wife Catherine withdrew from the church to train evangelists throughout England. The couple returned to the East End of London in 1865, where many followers joined their fight for the souls of lost men and women. Within 10 years, their organization, operating under the name “The Christian Mission," had over 1,000 volunteers and evangelists. Thieves, prostitutes, gamblers, and drunkards were among their first converts to Christianity. And soon, those converts were also preaching and singing in the streets as living testimonies to the power of God. When Booth read a printer's proof of the 1878 “Christian Mission” annual report, he noticed the statement "The Christian Mission is a volunteer army." Crossing out the words "volunteer army," he penned in "Salvation Army." From those words came the basis of the foundation deed of The Salvation Army. From that point onward, converts became soldiers of Christ and were known then, as now, as Salvationists. They launched an offensive throughout the British Isles that, in spite of violence and persecution, converted 250,000 Christians between 1881 and 1885. Their message spread rapidly, gaining a foothold in America and soon after Canada, Australia, France, Switzerland, India, South Africa, Iceland, and Germany. Today, The Salvation Army is active in virtually every corner of the world and serves in over 100 countries, offering the message of God’s healing and hope to all those in need.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States: a day of freedom long delayed, and a reminder of the generations who endured unimaginable injustice.

It is a time to remember, honor, and reflect on the lives, stories, and courage of those who fought for liberation.

But Juneteenth also calls us to look honestly at the present, because while slavery was legally abolished, exploitation and modern slavery still exist today, affecting vulnerable individuals and communities across our nation.

The Salvation Army continues that fight today through our anti‑human trafficking programs, walking alongside survivors with love, safety, dignity, compassion, and hope.

We believe honoring the past means choosing how we live today, supporting one another, extending grace, treating every person with respect, and serving in ways that protect freedom and uphold humanity.

Jesus didn’t wait for people to come to Him; He went to them and met them in their need with presence, compassion, and hope.

That’s the heart of volunteering with The Salvation Army. Whether you’re packing food boxes, mentoring a child, praying with a neighbor, or offering a warm smile at the door, you’re living out Jesus' love in real time.

When you volunteer with The Salvation Army, you become the hands and feet of Jesus, showing His love in practical, everyday ways that change lives. ✨

If you feel called to serve your neighbors, we’d be honored to serve alongside you. 🙏

“Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17

School may pause for summer, but learning doesn’t have to. Summer doesn’t need to be a season where kids fall behind. ☀️📉

At The Salvation Army, we want summer to be a season where your children leap forward - and we are committed to this statement!

From Summer Day Camp for daytime adventures to Summer Sleepaway Camps for a week-long immersive experience that encourages independence and lasting memories, to youth programs and summer music conservatories, The Salvation Army gives children and teenagers a place to learn, play, explore, and stay rooted in community.

There’s something admirable about the World Cup ⚽. How is it that one game has the power to bring thousands of people together, cheering with one voice? 📣

Giving creates the same sense of unity, as one act of kindness impacts an entire community and lifts up neighbors in need, regardless of their language or background. That’s something worth cheering!

You can support the mission and give in the way that feels right to you.

This season, join the team that gives with joy and let your generosity turn it into something that brings real transformation in the lives of our neighbors.

Summer heat doesn’t affect everyone the same way, and extreme heat puts our most vulnerable neighbors at risk.

A broken AC, a home without shade, or a night without relief can turn a heat wave into a crisis.

That’s why this season matters, and The Salvation Army is stepping in to offer cool spaces, water, utility bill assistance, and support for neighbors who need help staying safe this summer. ☀️

Reach out locally if you need assistance or if you can lend a hand. ✨

🍩 The Salvation Army Lassies stepped onto the front lines of WWI with one mission: bring comfort where it was most needed.

A warm doughnut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across The Salvation Army find comfort, support, and hope through our programs.

🍩 National Donut Day celebrates kindness that still changes lives.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

At The Salvation Army, we live that out every day, serving families in crisis, walking with people in recovery, feeding neighbors who are hungry, and offering hope to anyone who needs a place to rest and rebuild.

Because love isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we do…together.
