The Main Place

The Main Place Became a 501 (c) (3) in January 2012 Many of the teens are unaccompanied youth without a safe and secure home base. Only 1 out of 4 graduates.

The Main Place started as a grass roots organization in 2006, opened its doors in December 2009, and became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity in January 2012 operated by volunteers. In 2006, Founder Sharon Johnston became a community activist after learning that approximately 1000 IISD students, pre-K through 12, are identified during the school year as homeless. One out of three homeless teens and pr

e-teens will be drawn into human trafficking within the first 48 hours. Over the years as we have learned more about homelessness within our community, our mission evolved from focusing on homeless teens in school and expanded to include their babies, siblings and parents. Additionally, we serve victims of domestic/sexual abuse, fire, flood and other tragedies which make them at risk for homelessness. We ensure that all clients have the ultimate shopping experience complete with their own “image consultant” who personalizes their outfits and often entire wardrobes. All of our clients come to us with referrals and appointments only. We do not qualify them; we leave that to school counselors and case workers. Among those are IISD, Winfree Academy and other charter schools, Family Promise, La Buena Vida Leadership Foundation, Irving Cares, Brighter Tomorrows, Texas Hope Literacy, etc. Our network for referrals has grown and so has the need, therefore, more referrals means an increased need for volunteers and funding. Our volunteers are the backbone of our mission. Corporations, churches and schools bring large groups once a week, month or quarter; individuals volunteer as their schedule allows.

We’re urgently seeking donations to support Irving’s annual camp for underprivileged youth!

We need new and gently used items for boys and girls ages 7–17 (grade school through high school), including:

• Bathing suits (all styles: one-piece, two-piece, and swim shorts)
• All sizes, including plus sizes
• Beach towels
• Flip flops

These items will help ensure every child can fully participate and enjoy camp this year. Donations are needed as soon as possible.

Due to a couple of holidays this month, our schedule at The Main Place will look a little different.

Saturday services will be held on the 3rd and 5th Saturdays instead of our usual schedule.

Donation drop-offs will take place on:

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
And our regular hours during the week.

We Need Your Help, Community!

At The Main Place, we strive to serve all of our clients but right now, we’re running low on some essential items and need your support to fill the gaps.

Urgent Needs:
● Men’s athletic/tennis shoes (sizes 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 12.5) – new or gently used
● Women’s athletic/tennis shoes (sizes 7 & 7.5) – new or gently used
● Women's new underwear size 6-8
● New hygiene products: baby lotion, baby wash & baby shampoo, brushes & combs, and full-size women’s deodorant
● Toddler diapers (sizes 5, 6, 7, 8)
●Men’s jeans (waist size 36, all lengths)

Your donations make a huge impact helping us ensure no one has to go without.

Donation Hours:
Saturday: (2nd and 4th Sat.) 9 AM – 12 PM (May is 3rd & 5th Sat.)
Monday & Tuesday: 9 AM – 11 AM
Wednesday: 9 AM – 1 PM

This is a great time to clean out your closets, organize a neighborhood drive, or even host an office collection. We’re happy to provide flyers, supply collection boxes, or schedule a pickup if needed!

Reminder: We gladly accept new and gently used items including clothing (men’s, women’s, children's), shoes, purses, suitcases, backpacks, jewelry, bibles, new underwear & socks, household & kitchen items, linens, and new hygiene products.

Thank you to our new friends from Whole Foods! You made such an impact serving with The Main Place and we thoroughly loved working with you! See below for a few words from Kai, the team lead who put this together.

I’m Maquai Stewart, but a lot of people call me Kai. I’m 24 and have been with Whole Foods Market for about a year now, and it’s already been such a rewarding journey not just for me, but for our whole team.

I recently stepped into the Culture Ambassador role, which means a lot to me because it’s all about bringing people together and giving back to our community. That’s something our team really believes in, and volunteering is a big part of who we are.

When we found The Main Place, it honestly just felt right. Seeing what they do and the impact they make in the community, we didn’t even hesitate. As a team, we knew we wanted to be part of it and show up however we could.

It’s been an incredible experience getting to serve together and be part of something bigger than ourselves.

We are currently in need of:

What is the Main Place?

The Main Place is a nonprofit “store without a cash register,” providing new and like-new clothing and personal items to teens, families, and individuals in need. We serve those experiencing homelessness, as well as victims of abuse, fire, flood, and other hardships always with dignity, love, and care.

Each referred client receives a personalized shopping experience, complete with a personal image consultant, helping them find well-fitting, age-appropriate clothing that builds confidence and eases financial stress. Our heart is to show God’s love and help people see their true worth.

We are referral and appointment only, partnering with school counselors, caseworkers, non-profits, churches, and organizations. Your donations of clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and full-size hygiene items makes all of this possible and truly change lives. We are 100% volunteer-based and we absolutely love what do.
