In case you didn't make it to FICPFMovement's Nashville convening where formerly incarcerated and directly impacted leaders, organizers, advocates, families, and movement partners traveled from across Tennessee, across the South, and from around the country to spend the weekend together, to connect, strategize and build, it was truly a successful and inspiring "family reunion"! The south definitely showed it had something to say!

5 of our board directors (Serenity Pearls, Chalana McFarland Cosby, Dena Oaa, Tabatha Trammell & Waleisah Wilson - Menefee), traveled to Nashville to support our founder as one of the opening panel speakers and to connect and strategize with other southern region movement builders where, throughout the convening, attendees dug into voting rights, civic participation, directly impacted leadership, and the work ahead across Tennessee and the region and then participated in a day of action through text banking and a march at the Tennessee capital. Over 142,373 texts were sent to Tennessee residents and participants advocated at the Capitol for the restoration of voter rights to more than 456,000 Tennesseans who are locked out of the ballot box!

Our board directors, Tabatha and Waleisah, were the recipients of FICPFM's Community Commitment Award, honored for their fierce leadership and dedication to the the work they do in the movement, not for the income but for the outcome! Congrats! Well deserved!

The "Souf has sumthin' to say." Safe travels to 5 of our board directors who are traveling to Nashville today to attend the Formerly Incarcerated, Convicted People & Families Movement/FICPFM regional convening: Waleisah Wilson - Menefee, Tabatha Trammell, Chalana McFarland Cosby, Dena Oaa & Serenity Pearls.

This is one of 4 regional convenings aimed at creating space for directly impacted leaders, organizers, advocates, partners, and community-based organizations to connect, strategize, and build collective power across regions. From base building and rights awareness to voter rights restoration and discussing formerly incarcerated people running for office to policy advocacy and civic engagement to marching at the Tennessee Capitol, our team is sure to make invaluable connections, learn effective policy strategies that will challenge and change Georgia systems and return more ignited than ever!

On Monday, the 17th, our board director, Dr. Chalana McFarland Cosby, was invited by the Southern Center to give an overview of our free financial wellness portal, KOFE that we have in partnership with First Step Alliance for formerly incarcerated people, that offers free access to resources and education to manage money, budgeting, credit, retirement, credit counseling, certificates of completion and learning modules, as well as a dedicated toll free hot-line to financial coaches.

Now that the final 5 events of are wrapped up, we are too fit to be tired! Great job to our Columbus team: Andréa Atkins Irma Mason Kelton J. Biggs and our founder, Waleisah Wilson - Menefee.

Last week, on Saturday, we kicked off Columbus events with tabling at the Key Elementary/Asbury UMC back to school event, on Sunday, we worshipped with the Asbury United Methodist Church family and heard a great word on the importance of being an inclusive community welcoming of returning citizens and covered lunch afterwards at Hibachi, on Tuesday, we hosted a reentry simulation and training with REFORM to give participants (which included employees of the GA DOC, DCS, CPD, an newly elected official, community leaders, formerly incarcerated people and other community members) 1st hand experience in knowing exactly how hard it is to successfully navigate reentry and the unnecessary challenges that are intentionally put in place to make it harder for people to re-integrate, on Thursday, we hosted TWO events, a criminal record friendly job and resource fair in partnership with Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers that featured and expungement info session presented by Georgia Justice Project & a trucking & dispatching session presented by Supply Line 360 and in the evening hosted a voter education & dinner in partnership with Fair Count, VoteRiders & catered by Down Home Southern Catering, LLC. Special thanks to Golden Donut Columbus, GA for your in kind donations for 2 of the events. Congrats to all who won cash!
