Stigma is judging a person based on a characteristic they cannot control.
Stigma can:
Delay people from reaching out for help.
Impact relationships, employment, and self-esteem.
Increase feelings of isolation and distress.
We can play a role in changing the narrative:
Choose respectful language.
Educate ourselves and challenge misconceptions.
Listen without judgement.
Support access to care and resources.
Compassion and understanding does not only reduce stigma, it can save lives.
