A week ago today, the YC arrived back in Dallas from NLC. We had a great time touring D.C, doing fun activities and getting to hear from President Biden. The main message was for youth to make sure we don’t “Drop the baton”. So many inspirational people throughout history, paved the way for us and we have to continue to break barriers for a better future.

Last year over 9,000 students received free school supplies. Mayor Johnson’s goal is to exceed that number for this year and serve at least 10,000 students.

Families, as in the past, must pre-register to qualify for the free school supplies (registration deadline is July 30th). Families must also meet certain income eligibility requirements and have students who either live in the city of Dallas or attend Dallas ISD schools.

Dallas Park and Recreation will open its Bahama Beach Waterpark and The Cove aquatic centers on Saturday, May 29. The city's only waterpark and three of its family aquatic centers will operate only on weekends.
Starting June 19, the waterpark, community pools, and all eight aquatic centers will open daily.

Dallas' three larger aquatic centers - The Cove at Samuell-Grand, at Crawford and at Fretz - also opens. Two brand new facilities at Exline and Harry Stone parks - along with aquatic centers at Tietze, Lake Highlands, and Kidd Springs - will open June 5.
Operating hours for all aquatic facilities vary. Visit DallasAquatics.org for schedules and information on the facilities safety protocols.

If you have not met, District 10 Dallas Youth Commission & Mayor's Rising Star Council student Barbara Raygoza, you need to. This girl is a kind and gentle spirit, full of strength and grit. Having met her a few years back, I am incredibly proud at how much she has grown, but more proud of how vulnerable she is in sharing her story - to encourage others. #ALLinD10 #loveyourneighbor -------- Her critical thinking skills and ability to listen separate Barbara from teens and even adults, McGough says. It’s why, during a trip to Washington D.C., he pointed to a podium at Capitol Hill and told Barbara she’ll give speeches there one day. “She just has grit,” Adam McGough says. “Whatever it is, you just know she’s going to be able to deal with the situation and thrive in it. I trust her. I trust her judgment.” Lake Highlands High, Lake Highlands Advocate, Christie Liversedge- Myers, Mayor's Star Council, Mayor Mike Rawlings, Lake Highlands Residents, Lake Highlands Women's League, Exchange Club of Lake Highlands
