Most people think our volunteers come here to change someone else's life.

What many don't realize is that sometimes their own life is changed too.

Some volunteers come because they need service hours.

Some come because their church asked them to help.

Some come because they recently retired and are looking for something meaningful to do.

Some come because they simply want to make a difference.

But somewhere between packing food boxes, loading groceries or senior food boxes, serving hot meals, and sharing conversations with neighbors, something happens.

Strangers become friends.

Purpose replaces boredom.

Community replaces loneliness.

What started as "just helping out for a few hours" becomes something they look forward to every week.

We've watched volunteers laugh together, pray together, support one another through difficult seasons, and celebrate life's victories together.

They show up to serve others, but often leave with something they didn't expect—a sense of belonging.

At Dallas High Shoals Christian Social Ministry, volunteers make our work possible. Every meal served, every grocery cart distributed, every senior served, and every family assisted is possible because someone chose to give their time.

And while our volunteers certainly change lives every day, many would tell you that this ministry has changed theirs too.

Thank you to every volunteer who chooses to show up, serve, and make a difference. We couldn't do it without you.

Information on free meals for school kids this summer.

Beginning Monday, June 1, free meals will be available for children at community sites across Gaston County. The summer nutrition program provides breakfast and lunch at no cost to help families during the summer break.

Parents and families can visit the Gaston County Schools website for a complete list of meal locations, dates, and serving times.

Operation Fan Heat Relief is now happening at Gaston County Social Services for many residents!
