Alcorn State University alumnus Daniel Stallworth ’21 has secured a Golden Ticket to Hollywood Week on the season premiere of American Idol.

Stallworth, a Moss Point, Miss., native and former member of the Alcorn State University Gospel Choir, impressed the judges during his audition tonight. Currently an elementary music teacher, he joins a select group of vocalists moving forward in the competition.

Black-eyed peas - The practice of, and eating black-eyed peas with rice, also known as Hoppin’John. Eating Hoppin’John consists of black-eyed peas, rice, red peppers, and salt pork. It is believed to bring good fortune to those who eat it.

Sit on this! Before finding its way into American traditions, the black-eyed pea (also known as cow-pea) traveled from Central Africa to the West Indies and finally to the Carolina's in the early 1700.
